S9VPAP S Bi-Level vs S9 VPAP Adapt

I recently purchased a Resmed S9 VPAP S Bi-level with H5i and I can't get all of the settings input due to the machine my physician tried me out on was a Resmed S9 VPAP Adapt. I was told by several people before I purchased the VPAP Bi-Level that it work just fine. After going back to my Dr he re-prescribed the settings for the Adapt machine since he wasn't aware of what the additional settings needed for the Bi-Level machine. Is there anyone out there that can advise on how I can still use the Bi-Level machine? It is still a VPAP machine.

What you have is a bilevel machine. It will not function the same as the S9 VPAP adapt.

vpap s IS bilevel, Adapt is ANOTHER type of bilevel.

They said that the S9 VPAP S would do the same thing as the Adapt??? They lied to you.
There's a reason there are different machines available....they do different things.
Yes the Adapt is a bilevel but that's where the similarity to the VPAP S model ends in terms of blowing air. Now way will it ever be able to come close to doing what the Adapt will do.

If it was a DME telling you this...go in and ask them how much malpractice insurance they have...watch them turn pale.
And if they don't and they really don't know the difference...go find someone else to supply your equipment. They are plain stupid and I wouldn't trust them one bit.

It could hurt you because it doesn't help you type of thing mainly.
Like if you were having a ton of central apneas (which the ASV treats and the other doesn't) and having significant oxygen level drops because the centrals aren't prevented....yeah, the lack of oxygen is bad but unless the machine actually caused more centrals then it wouldn't necessarily be that much worse than no machine.

So it could hurt you because it isn't helping...but there is a remote chance it could actually make things worse. Either way it's unacceptable.

I don't know why your doctor wanted to do ASV and the Adapt but he was very specific about it so I assume that he had some really good reasons for going with that machine.
What the DME did is change the prescription totally....like changing a medication your doctor prescribed to something else....it's not allowed.

What was your original diagnosis anyway? Have any mention of central apneas or complex sleep apnea in your paperwork? Do you have a copy of that sleep study paperwork? If not, get it.

Doctors don't prescribe ASV without a really good reason though and if it was because you have central sleep apnea or complex sleep apnea ....the S9 VPAP S can't breathe for you when you have the central apneas...now it can fix any obstructive stuff but it can't breathe for you is you quit breathing. The Adapt/ASV can breathe for you which is what is needed when people have central apneas.
