Who Is The Best Sleep Doc in Tulsa OK?

Post by jeepdoctor » Sun Oct 15, 2006 5:14 pm

I live in a small town near Tulsa. My internist (who is a wonderful, caring physician) mentioned that there is a fantastic sleep doc in Tulsa and that he would provide me the name. The name hasn't been forthcoming. Can anyone in Tulsa tell me who this fantastic sleep doc is? (Or, alternatively, who to avoid like the plague?)

This revelation came about when I asked the internist to take over case management of my sleep apnea. I told him that I want to sever relations with the sleep doc pulminologist who told me that if I can read-up on my condition and ask intelligent questions, then I have too much time on my hands. My internist demurred, stating that he is not knowledgeable in sleep medicine, but that he would provide me with the Tulsa sleep doc's name.

Me thinks you had one too many 'doctors' on your hands!!!
And now he has one less patient!
I've had dr's pull that arrogant crap with me also, and I let them think that they would WANT someone who is better informed and able to ask them intelligent questions for which they undoubtedly HAVE THE ANSWERS! But Dr., I KNEW you'd know whether or not this is accurate; now please tell me, what is incorrect about this??? Nothing? Oh goodie! See ya!

the one driving the Ferrari and leasing a Mercedes.

I would go here and find a board certified one:

http://www.absm.org

Click on Diplomats on the left, then your state, then your city, it will give you a list docs in your area. I would pick a Pulmonologist over any other specialty.

Here is the list for Tulsa, the one with the earliest date has the most experience:

Carl David Boethel, M.D., Tulsa, OK, Pulmonology 3/24/2004
Richard M. Bregman, M.D., Tulsa, OK, Pulmonology 4/28/1997
Liphard O. D'Souza, M.D., Tulsa, OK, Neurology 4/11/1999
Kevin L. Lewis, M.D., Tulsa, OK, Pulmonology 4/14/2003
Brian D. Worley, M.D., Tulsa, OK, Pulmonology 4/28/1997

Thanks for the reference, Snoredog!

Guess what! My NEUROLOGIST is listed:
Maria Michalek, M.D. Camp Hill PA Neurology 4/23/1990
BUT NOT my PULMONOLOGIST!

I'll attempt to recall a previous entry which I removed:
My FIRST sleep study was done via Rx from my Neurologist.
Most of the contact was done between the RT from the DME and the Nurse Practicioner at the Dr's office.
I was gradually titrated from 7 to 11.
The RT was responsible for getting me oxygen at night.
The NP wrote a Rx for me stating I could have any cpap I wanted, etc.
The RT's company said NO way, the cpap Pro (not pro2) is what you're getting - "You have what you need". ???????? I pulled the O2 rental from them; too late to pull the cpap. Too bad that RT is working for THAT DME!!

SECOND Dr, (Pulmonary):
My primary physician wanted him to see me, and the procedure is to have a sleep study done if sleep apnea has been established.
They DID report PLMD (Dr. never addressed it though)
They DID NOT find a need for oxygen!
The titration was 7 or 9; In the middle of the night, someone came in the room FLIPPED on the overhead light and hollers something about changing masks, took off my mask WHILE i WAS IN SHOCK! Then put on another mask and left the room. I didn't sleep too well after that! I could not believe the disregard for my sleep. There's something called empathy and understanding, and waking someone more 'kindly'.

Followup with the Pulmonary Dr.: WHY are you on oxygen?
Why did you have to buy an AUTO cpap? (Because your sleep lab has a bulldog on the phone and won't allow calls to go through. HE answers the questions!
WHAT is your titration? WHY??? HE DID NOT ask what the usual level was. (set 7-12, using 11).
You've heard of the "EASY" button (Staples)? I wish ther was a 'dummy' button. Or, READ THE REPORTS, _____!
I let him know that his office was of no help in assisting me obtain an auto cpap. No comment except: hmmmmmmmmm

He wants to see me in two months. Now I'm doing the 'wondering!' I wondery WHY??? I'm going to insist he interpret the smart card readout FOR ME - to see IF HE CAN! He had the results last time, but only commented on my 'compliance' - as if I didn't know that.

I think I'm finished ranting - there's undoubtedly more, but who wants to relive such stuff? WHAT A DOPE! I should have pushed him? YES! Will I next time? YOU BET! Will let you know what he's made of in 2 mos.
