I’ve been abandoned.

Post by DonO » Wed Nov 01, 2017 5:38 pm

I’m blessed with good insurance. They are paying the rental fees on my machine (converts to purchase after ten months), provide me with supplies and coaching. My sleep coach called every week, ran me down when I didn’t return her call and was happy to answer questions.

Yesterday, she left me a voicemail that I’m doing great and she will no longer call me. I will still be monitored for compliance, but coaching is over.

The whole process has me wondering if the coaching helps. I understand that the compliance rate is around 50%, so it seems that providing coaching may help with compliance. I doubt the insurance company would supply the service if it didn’t help with profits (keeping people in treatment).

Seems to me that if they also provided a link to this forum that compliance would be even better. Reading about how others have overcome obstacles, seems like a better service than a weekly phone call.

So, now that my coach has kicked me to the curb, y’all are going to be my crutch. I get most of my answers through searching and lurking, so I’m not going to be a pest.

For every new person who posts here there has to be many many more who don’t. So, once again I thank those of you who wade through the bullshit of pettiness and answer questions for newbies. The coach didn’t do very much, but this forum certainly went a long way to leading me to compliance.

Of course, not all advice here is on target, but it doesn’t take long to separate the wheat from the chaff.

As an "abandoned baby" I like your attitude...

If you run across anyone that is having difficulties with areas that you have already conquered be sure to chime in and offer a helping hand.

Wow, you have awesome Insurance, at least when it comes to cpap. I started almost 1 year ago with a 1 hour "Fitting" at my DME.
Thats been it. If I have a sleep Dr. I don't know who it is. I told my primary care dr. when I changed pressures and he didn't seem to mind.
As of about 2 weeks ago I finally figured it all out(I think).
Did it all with the help of the fine folks on this forum, and a lot of fiddlin around.
Good luck on your new found, umm, freedom

Annual diabetes classes significantly reduces diabetes complications, so I should think the same thing helps with CPAP. There just isn't anything available for most people IMHO. I feel fortunate that my new DME answers questions and can help if you walk in the door. Not perfect, but better.
