Help with pressure setting
Hi I'm picking up my apap machine tommorow and have no clue what I should have the pressure settings at I know it ussaly starts at 5-20 should I start with that? Or do I need to change the pressure settings? Thanks guys!!
Re: Help with pressure setting
It is being set to the failure mode, any reason the Dr. doesn't have a better solution, most here go for a range on 3 or 4 cm above the sleep study data. 2 under and to over cpap pressure or their best guess. 5 to 20 is a very poor guess, time for a different fortune teller. Jim
Use data to optimize your xPAP treatment!

Re: Help with pressure setting
It's as good of a place to start as any as long as you are comfortable at that starting pressure.
Some people find that they need a little more starting pressure just from a comfort aspect. They feel a bit stifled at the lower pressures.
We won't suffocate but it can sure feel like it.
If you don't feel like enough air is moving then go ahead and try 6 or even 7 as a starting pressure.
Once you get a couple of nights of decent sleep then you can use available software and evaluate for any further pressure changes if needed.
Did you have a sleep study where pressures were tried or are you doing the at home titration?

Re: Help with pressure setting
I think a better "guess" would be to set it at 7 - 15, and then use the data software to dial it in closer.

Now you are a Expert Fortune Teller, also! What a talented person! It's not in his post, I'm not a Expert Fortune Teller, or world renown Engineer. Toot! Toot! nonsense
he is self titrating
faster better easier cheaper than a sleep lab guessing at it
At least HoseCrushers range would be a fair guess. The object is to narrow the range so the machine can get to the pressure you need quicker.
Use data to optimize your xPAP treatment!

There are many ways to determine the pressure settings but HoseCrusher has the "optimal" approach IMO.

are you a doctor or an RT?
he should start with full range first to see where the machine tends to go before he limits it

idling on the road where others atr going 30 mph, then when they see you creeping down the road, accelerate to full throttle, and rear end them. Great Plan! Jim

It simply doesn't matter who I am! ... Well, except for LSAT who has a very important investigation under way
Few if any can breathe at 5 and even if they can, leaving it wide open will take several weeks to zero in to an optimal pressure. On average, most OSA patients end up around 10 cm H2O.
