Suggestions on new CPAP

Post by Lou Cypher » Wed Oct 18, 2017 8:46 am

As you can see I am using an older CPAP machine.....

I would like something like what I have..in order words able to read the numbers in the morning and I am sure all the new ones have the other features of my current machine plus a humidifier .

I recommend http://www.secondwindcpap.com/ResMed-S9-AutoSet.html with one-year seller warranty.

I like the S9 AutoSet so much that I bought a second used one from this seller to use as a backup. Note you need to specify optional humidifier.

This machine will do everything your current machine does plus it uses an SD card so a cheap card reader or the slot on your laptop works well.

Don't know which S8 you are using but the newest line of ResMeds is the AirSense 10 model line unless your S8 is some sort of bilevel device and if that is the case then the AirCurve 10 model line.

Avoid anything with AirStart in the model name from ResMed. The Start part is very important and they do have an apap version. Anything with "Start" in the model name is a brick no useful data and is the most basic bare bones machine...doesn't even have a heated hose option.

In the AirSense 10 model line

Basic machine is the AirSense 10 CPAP machine. Fixed single pressure cpap machine. I would avoid this machine. While it does offer some limited data it's not detailed data. It will offer AHI but no even category breakdown..and it offers a 95% leak number. No detailed graphs at all if using software.

Next in line is the AirSense 10 Elite...fixed single pressure cpap machine but it is a full efficacy data machine.

Next is the AirSense 10 AutoSet....has 2 modes of operation ..fixed cpap an auto adjusting (apap) and is full data. It's like 2 machines in one.

Then there is the AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her which is like the regular AutoSet but has an additional apap mode available that you may or may not need or want. So cpap mode, and 2 apap modes...3 machines in one.

You can read about them here.
https://sleep.tnet.com/home/files/resme ... -guide.pdf

Since you have been using ResMed for a long time I would suggest sticking with the ResMed brand...for several reasons really but the main one being you are used to the way it goes about its job.

Now if you happen to be using a bilevel S8..then the AirCurve 10 model line has 2 basic models.
The S and the VAuto...The S is a fixed bilevel and the VAuto has both fixed and auto adjusting modes available.
Both models are full data machines.

If your S8 is one of the specialty bilevel machines I would need to know exactly which model to offer the equivalent in the AirCurve line.

There is of course the S9 model line which the AirSense/AirCurve replaced.
If you are purchasing out of pocket...it might be worthwhile looking at the S9 models. They are less expensive now since they have been discontinued but if you want the very latest model just because you want the "latest"...look at the AirSense/AirCurve.

Sorry, I should have clarified... S8 autoset II

I am guessing by your post that the airSense 10 autoset would be a good replacement,.... or even a S9 autoset ????

Been on CPAP since 1998, started with a TANK..LOL no humidifier, and just straight pressure breathing in and out.....

I have had my S8 since 2011 and am looking to upgrade and be able to keep my S8 in case of equipment failure with the new one some day.......

The S9 was discontinued maybe 3 years ago...time flies and I can't remember exact time frames...and replaced by the AirSense 10 model line.
There were a few minor changes with the upgrade from the S9 to the AirSense but for the most part not critical changes and nothing in terms of how the machine goes about its job.
It did expand the data that is gathered though...so the AirSense data is a little more comprehensive but it's not a critical thing.

If money is tight...the S9 AutoSet will serve you nicely and save you a bit of money.

If you want to have the latest...the AirSense 10 AutoSet is going to be very similar to your S8.

Now ResMed did make a change in the algorithm when they came out with the S9 model...so that's not the same algorithm you are using now with your S8.
When they came out with the AirSense they didn't change the algorithm since they had already made a major change with the S9.

With either the S9 or the AirSense you would have more data available than you have now.

If you use or want to use available software...I would suggest the AirSense 10. The S9 has some unique limitations that are a bit of a PITA IMHO. It overwrites detailed data weekly so you have to download at least once a week or you lose a lot of detail data and if you use Windows 8.xxx or higher you have to continually lock the SD card or the S9 bitches about it and wants to erase the card.
With the AirSense it doesn't overwrite anything for a year.
One thing to remember with either the S9 or the AirSense...the SD card must be in the machine during the night or you lose detailed data.
It still has the summary AHI stuff held in storage in the internal memory but detailed data goes directly to the SD card...no SD card in the slot...no detailed data (graphs, etc).

Currently I have to insert the card daily to down load the data.....

I can read the pressure, leaks, AHI,. and apnea from the machine... so there are other data from the AirSense 10 AutoSet???

Also is there software that I will need for my computer to read it...Does the SD card come with the machine?

Software options for either the S9 or the AirSense 10
https://sleep.tnet.com/equipment

SD cards...they used to come with SD cards but some people are saying they got a machine without them.
Don't know if the DMEs are robbing them or if they are being shipped that way but it doesn't matter because any cheap generic SD card will work.
I just got an AirSense not long ago and it had a SD card in it.
If it hadn't I have a spare card I could have used.

The S9 and AirSense machines have to be in the machine if you want the detailed data available.
Where as the S8 stores some data and will put it on the card when you insert it...these newer machines won't do the detailed stuff.
All they store in the machine is the basic summary stuff...AHI, 95% leak number and pressure numbers, and hours of use.
