Sleeping too much on CPAP
Re: Sleeping too much on CPAP
Thinking back to what I suggested previously about sleep inertia. I wonder how strong the connection is between apnea and sleep inertia. In my case, I feel crumminess in some ways when I sleep in. I'm thankful for the extra sleep but am more sluggish and low energy. It could be explained as sleep inertia. Perhaps it could also be explained by looking at REM sleep. Our REM sleep increases in the morning hours, I believe. My apnea triples in REM sleep. So, maybe it makes sense that I feel "off" when I sleep in because my body is trying to have more REM sleep so I am having more events? Just throwing that out there. That maybe the feeling of sleep inertia has a true connection to apnea, for those of us "lucky" enough to have apnea!

Re: Sleeping too much on CPAP
I'm having to be careful not to sleep too much. Last night it was 9:50 - almost ten hours until the cat woke me up. Good, restful sleep is awesome.
Most of us probably don't remember back to our teen years when we slept 12 hours and woke up like zombies. I get to see it on the rare occasion my kids sleep til noon on a Saturday and wake up stunned.

I don't disagree with the responses re sleep iniertia, or possible med side effects, but isn't it also possible that his body is still trying to "catch up" to heal from long term effects from inadequate quality sleep? I'd be reluctant to force myself to prematurely wake up when finally allowing my brain to recover from severe sleep apnea and give things a bit more time.

I'd tend to agree with the idea of making up for sleep debt. It has certainly been the case for me and now that I sleep soundly that debt is going down quite rapidly.jagzoo wrote:I don't disagree with the responses re sleep iniertia, or possible med side effects, but isn't it also possible that his body is still trying to "catch up" to heal from long term effects from inadequate quality sleep?
