Re: myths about deviated septi
Alternating congestion, related to gravity is very common.
Dr Park's observation underscores how a minor deviation can be seized upon by knife-happy surgeons.

Seriously? You are quoting Bernoulli's Principle (not Law) to explain airflow in the human nostril? Bernoulli's Principle is about Fluid Dynamics. And it does have a place in aerodynamics to calculate lift on a wing foil. But in the nostril? Nice try. The difference in airflow, if any, would be statistically irrelevant. Stop trying to impress people with your obvious lack of knowledge.

yes
i cant see how a deviated septum can be a bigger problem then when my nose stuffs up and one side has zero air coming through
allergies used to do that all the time
and when they both clogged up too much i had to breathe through my mouth
so again not a really big problem if the septum is deviated
what is overlooked is bernoullis law
when one opening gets smaller the air flows faster through the remaining opening
up do a point anyway
after air is past the septum , doesnt all of it go down the same pipe to the lungs ?[/quote]

Re: myths about deviated septi
Well, I agree with Dr Park's assessment based only on two family members. They didn't have any of those specific issues. Neither had an injury to the nose. Neither had breathing problems until their late 30s, so I suspect a problem developed over a long period. Both had surgery to correct the problem in their 40s - bro continues to have breathing issues (allergies) but no longer has pain. Sis no longer needed a cpap after surgery and had a huge improvement in her ability to smell things. Her doc was very clear that it was likely she would still need cpap after surgery, so it was a surprise when she found she didn't need it any longer.
