How to interpret SH- one graph at a time.

Post by lliann » Sun Aug 27, 2017 4:48 pm

So I have been trying different masks, different mouth treatments for about 2 months now. A few bad nights in there that exceeded 10 ahi.And a few nights that me and the mask did not bond. But overall........

Last night I used the n10 airfit nasal mask (yeh, once I figured out the magnets were my friends and not some kind of gymnastic exercise)

Friday was a good night.

But Saturday was the day from Hell with allergies. I didn't think I would be able to use any mask. But tried the n10 again. AND without anything on my mouth because of the sneezing all day.

I think I had a pretty good night on a night I would not have thought would be good. I was very interested in the leaks interpretation since I didn't gag myself for the night. I don't quite know how to read the numbers. I get it Pugsy when you say 15 min in large leak with 6.75 in no leak is still good. What is the formula to understand my percentage in leaks for the night. (I really am decent at math but graphs...not so much.

Thank you

What are you wanting to figure out? How much actual time was spent in large leak territory?

If so...using last night results

SH already gives you the % of time in large leak.
Last night it was 0.180 %...next to nothing and not even worth doing the match but let's do it anyway.

Now look to see how long you used the machine and hopefully slept.
8 hours and 20 minutes
that's 500 minutes

Multiply 500 minutes by 0.180%.... is 0.90 minutes....less than 1 minute in large leak territory out of over 8 hours of sleep.
Pretty damn good any day of the week in my book.

Thats exactly what I was asking for.... the formula! I was excited I had decent leak data for not having something on my mouth. Maybe I trained my mouth?? I never would have bet on that one.

Not all large leaks are mouth breathing leaks...yeah the knee jerk reaction for some people is "OMG large leak, nasal mask, you are losing all your pressure out your mouth and you need a full face mask"...and they don't even know for sure if the leak is a mouth leak or not...and they often don't even know how much time was spent in large leak.

There's mask movement leaks too...and they can happen with any mask no matter what kind.

Besides...if I have 7 hours of sleep...and assuming that leaks aren't waking me up...I don't even bat an eye until I spend more than 30 minutes in large leak and then I don't panic...I look to see just how far into large leak territory I went.
There's more than one data point that I look at when evaluating any leak no matter what the cause.
