This was eighteen years ago.
Back then they diagnostic machines did not have remote control. They were placed outside the room and a log hose was run through a hole in the wall. They stuffed a towel through the hole (which was much larger than needed for the hose) for privacy, quiet, and darkness. The machines that did the recording used paper, and the results of each test filled a large archive box (almost to capacity).
There was a baseline test (which included a Narcolepsy test, making it 22 hours), a titration test, and a follow-up test with my own CPAP machine. The last one is unheard of these days, at least in the U.S.

People used to have to walk to get everywhere, then they came up with horses, then cars.. Jim

My 1st Sleep Study was 19 years ago (come December).D.H. wrote:This was eighteen years ago.

Almost identical to my 2nd Sleep Study done on 8-1-17 - except the tech said they use less wires glued to your head.
Also now, the test is all digital.
No hole in the wall with a towel stuffed in it.
And, my 1st Sleep Study was 2 nights plus the Narcolepsy test the morning after the 2nd night.
My 2nd Sleep Study was a 1 night only split study.
Just got the invoice today for the 2nd Sleep Study.
Amount was $4,083.00
Can't wait to see how much Medicare discounts that amount.

One thing about those Medicare statements--it just makes me SMILE.StuUnderPressure wrote: . . .

We already know that ALL insurance companies negotiate a discount with providers.
Cash patients are they only ones who get the full invoice amount.
I wonder how many stiff the hospital/sleep lab.
Medical expenses are the number one reason for personal bankruptcies.
