Viewing only new posts
When I log on I want to see only the messages posted since the last time I logged on. Does this forum software have that feature? Some forums do.

Re: Viewing only new posts
When logged in, there is a tiny little square in front of a topic where there are posts you haven't read. Clicking on that takes me to the first unread post. (And if you hover over it, it says that's what it does, although the legend at the bottom of the main page says otherwise for some reason.) Anyway, is that what you're looking for?

I do not see the little square. Exactly where on the screen should I find it? The legend at the bottom of the screen shows a red box and says those are the subjects I have not read, but I've never see any red boxes on my screen.WearyOne wrote:When logged in, there is a tiny little square in front of a topic where there are posts you haven't read. .
Here's a screen shot. For example, there's a square for me right before "Viewing only new posts."

Magic! Now I see the small circle in front of about the first half of topics are red. None of them were red the last time I logged on. Also, now I see a very small square in front of each topic name and when I put the cursor on it it says, "View first unread post."WearyOne wrote:.

All of this changed without my doing anything. Strange. It sort of gives me what I want, if I work on it. But, it was never there before. I don't like computer mysteries.

I don't like computer mysteries either, believe me! Glad it's working for you now and I hope it stays that way!wardmiller wrote:Magic! I would bet you did not actually get logged in. If you are not logged in, none of the posts will show red.wardmiller wrote:Magic! Now I see the small circle in front of about the first half of topics are red. None of them were red the last time I logged on.
But now another mystery, when you are not logged in, most of the topics have the standard Read Topic icon in blue. But a few of the topics have the avatar of the OP. Are these very special members?
Try it. Log out and see who these very special members are.

Re: Viewing only new posts
This is taking more time than I can afford. It seems most topics have the red square when I log in. It appears if I display a given topic, then log off and log back in, that topic's square is no longer red, but all the others are.
I belong to another forum where when I log in, only the actual posts that were posted since I last logged in are there. That saves the reader a lot of time and effort.
This forum software offers a lot of features I'd never think of using, but this simple one I'd like isn't here. My time is limited, so I guess I'll just drop in occasionally and look at the few subjects that catch my eye. My loss.
