I;ve narrowed down my choices for a new machine. This is coming out of my pocket so I want to make the best choice. I am looking at the Airsense 10 Auto vs the Dreamstation Auto- here's my thoughts:
The dreamstation humidifier looks easy to fill and put back, PLUS it comes with a heated hose.
The Airsense Auto does NOT come with a heated hose (Do you really use that anyway?) but it is a lot smaller looking than the Dreamstation, takes up less room. They both have advanced features which look good to me!!
Thoughts?
Dreamstation vs Airsense
Re: Dreamstation vs Airsense
While we normally think of a heated hose as being a preventative measure for rain out (condensation in the hose or mask) control there is actually more to it. Heated hoses allow for even more customizing of the amount of humidity that is to be delivered. Think of it as an even more precise humidity delivery. Humidity may or may not be something that your nose really wants or needs.
Plus if you are like me and you end up with a cold bedroom in the winter....the ability to warm the air can make a huge difference in terms of preventing what I call "ice cube nose syndrome".
Both brands have optional heated hoses with no special needs for different power or connections like the previous models had.
You can get a heated hose for the AirSense 10 machine if you want to. Now or even later.
Do you know what your pressure needs are? Did you have an in lab titration sleep study where they figured out the "best" pressure for you?
How much of a difference in price are you looking at with the 2 brands? Is the difference going to take food off the table if you get the more expensive machine?
The footprint of the AirSense is a little less than the DreamStation but it sort of makes up for it in terms of vertical.
Do you ever go camping off the grid where you might need to power your cpap with a batter? If so, you might look more closely at the DreamStation because it works just fine with 12 volt batter but the AirSense requires and $85 converter to change the battery to 24 volt.
I have never used the DreamStation but I have used past Respironics models...and I am now trying an AirSense 10 AutoSet. Have you seen that thread? I just started it not long ago.
There's going to be minor pros and cons with either but no real deal breakers or deal makers (at least for me).
If your pressure needs are in the higher range (10 or above) you might like the exhale relief available on the ResMed a little better than what is available on the Respironics machine.
