Leaks & Mask Issues

Good Day,

I have been using the Resmed Airsense 10 for approx a year now.

I recently shifted from the full face mask f10 to the f20

The problems I am having the leaks now usually record at around 50ml - which from what i understood before 40ml was acceptable but surprisingly the machine at that leak rate still has the "smile face" saying it is ok - is something wrong with the machine.

Also when the pressure builds in the night once i shift or move air escapes and is pretty loud now , I don't understand why so much noise it wakes me from time to time.

I have a group social trip where i would be in the same room with others who complained before with my snoring now i thought it would be ok but now my machine is acting up it even keeps up my gf.

Should i set a max pressure so it does not get that high - then again the machine increases to compensate for leaks so doing that may hamper my therapy - I just don't know what i can do

Is there a reason you would not just go back to the F10?

My F10 mask ripped by the connectors on top ( not the strap the silicone part)

So had to buy a new mask and was advised the f20 was the latest and better mask - in reality the f20 is move comfortable - so for me to go back to the f10 will have to buy a new one and i'm not from the US so my masks are a but expensive.

Here are some general tips on reducing leaks:

To reduce unintentional mask leak -

- Make sure the mask is fitted properly. (See mask manufacturer's video.)

- Make sure the headgear is adjusted properly (See mask manufacturer's video.)

- If you use a low ramp pressure or a low minimum pressure, you should fit and adjust your mask at the higher pressures it is operating at for most of the night. You would temporarily change the machine pressure settings while you do the fitting and adjusting. It's best to do this well before bedtime before you are tired and ready for sleep. Don't forget to change your settings back to the ones you prefer.

- Make sure to use good hose management - the hose should not pull on the mask. Notice how your hose is positioned between machine and mask. It should be positioned to minimize any pull on the mask. Hose management is an individual practice. How it is done depends on the mask, the position of the machine, your sleeping position and other factors specific to the individual.

- If you still have problems, learn from the forum what mask liners are available.

- If your mask still has excessive leak, try other masks. Many people report trying several masks before they find one that works well for them.

Have you tried a mask liner? You can buy them or make your own out of an old Tshirt. Many people swear by them for helping reducing those mask leak/farting noises that are so annoying.

Actually that's not quite how the mask compensation thing works. It's the flow that gets increased to compensate not the pressure.
You can limit the pressure but the flow can still increase but limiting the pressure could negatively impact the therapy.
Are you using available software to evaluate the leaks and the pressure? If not, you should. Maybe limiting the pressure won't negatively impact your therapy.
