Waking 8 times an hour

Post by aprilhoke » Tue Aug 01, 2017 8:30 pm

I only wake up 8 times an hour. My dr says I have it mild but need treatment because I nap everyday and doze off.
Sometimes I even feel not numb but blunted in my feelings about emotional things. Can apnea cause this because of fatigue? I could understand if I had severe...

Waking up 8 times an hour is not "only". In the course of an 8 hour night that is 64 wakings. No small matter. Yes, sleep apnea - even mild - can cause what you describe. Totally agree with your doctor about treating your sleep apnea. There's a myrid of other side rabbit trails you could chase down to see if you can avoid CPAP but with your symptoms, I think I would start treatment and be consistent and over time see how much your symptoms improve. Maybe they will all go away. or maybe you will find there's likely other contributors that will need addressed. But if you take one other possible approach, you will have to have various tests through your doctor and some trial and error outside CPAP on trying (maybe in vain) to reduce your mild sleep apnea to an acceptable level. That's time lost when you could get on with feeling better.

Hi, April,
Here's a link that reviews symptoms of sleep apnea: https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/health ... pnea/signs Mood changes are definitely symptomatic of apnea (among other conditions).
Also, there is a lot of information right here on cpaptalk--check out the CPAP Wiki: click the lightbulb at the top right of the page, and start reading!

8 arousals an hour over 7 hours (say) would be 56 total, for the night--that's still a lot of times to be disturbed in your sleep. I hope your treatment will give you some relief.

Welcome to the forum,
Jean

Enshaded in forgetfulness divine

Waking 8 times an hour or having 8 events per hour? 8 events per hour would mean mild apnea. You don't necessarily wake up during apnea events. You don't need "severe" apnea to feel crappy.
