why no improvement?

why no improvement?
I am relatively new to the whole sleep apnea issue. I was first diagnosed with severe RLS - didn't have it. Then I was diagnosed with severe SA in REM. I've been a 'poster child' regarding compliance with usage of the CPAP for four weeks. I see no difference in the way I feel. (I hate the mask and failed the first time I tried it, then tried a difference mask and was successful.) I still hate the mask but will do what I have to do to fix this issue. But when I don't feel any different it's very hard to do. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. (Could the test have been wrong the second time also?)

What was the first test you speak of?barkerlinda1811 wrote: ...I was first diagnosed with severe RLS - didn't have it. Then I was diagnosed with severe SA in REM... (Could the test have been wrong the second time also?)
On what basis were you diagnosed with with severe RLS?
Did that diagnosis include a problem with Periodic Limb Movements during sleep?
A false positive for sleep apnea would be difficult to get because it's evidence based. Although a false negative isn't uncommon due to any number of compromises in sleep during testing. Please respond to the above questions. I do have some other input but don't want to take you down a rabbit trail if my input is not relatable to your situation.

What were your study results (#'s)? What machine/model do you have? What mask? What are your pressures set at (the scripted ones, not e.g. the ramp feature)? Many people's pressures are set by overly conservative doctors/dealers and need bumping up to be effective, so it's important that you know what yours are.
Oh, and do you sleep on your back most of the night?

Re: why no improvement?
Some people find relief the first night. Others, like me, take quite a while before changes are noticed. The changes came on slowly. After about two or three months, I noticed I could sit and watch TV and not fall asleep and I could sit at the table and work the crossword puzzle in the newspaper and not fall asleep. You need to give us more information before we can offer any help.

To the original poster,
Please let us know which machine you're using. Also, please register with the forum and add the equipment to your profile. If you're machine has an SD card, you can probably use Sleepyhead to see how you're doing. It may be necessary to change your pressure for better results. You can't know that without stats.
Also, please be patient, as for most relief takes a while.
