I have been on CPAP for 4 years now. Should I be having another sleep study? Would going to an APAP eliminate the need for another sleep study?

Hello Hawthorne,
Did you ask the Dr.?
When asked that question, the answer given was:
This is for the complete sleep study (all hooked up, no APAP/CPAP).
Retesting: If you have problems;
develop symptoms,
medical changes, and
weight gain.
The guide lines may be different in different areas.
There was no specific time line for retesting if any. The Dr did mention that patients can go many years without retesting.
Doctor visits: There was the initial 1-2 month follow up, 6 months and a year. There was no mention of yearly after that. I will ask when I get to it.
As for an APAP eliminate the need for another sleep study, I do not know.
Also, Are you talking about a complete sleep study where you are hooked up to everything or the one that tells you what pressure to use while on an APAP. When I was titrated it was an at home with an Autopap and the oximetry on the finger.

My APAP has proven to be much more accurate than my last sleep study.
Furthermore, it agrees with my first sleep study (2000). But the real benefit
is how well it responds to body position changes.
2000 PSG = AHI 88, titration = 10 cm/H2O.
2006 PSG = AHI 20, titration = 8 cm/H2O,
2006 APAP = AHI 1.8, Pressures = 9.6 cm/H2O/on back, 8.4 cm/H2O
on side.
The problems with my 2006 PSG were:
1) Only 50 minutes total sleep time
2) No REM sleep
3) Cost $3000.
4) Titration (8 cm/H2O)) was a bad guess by the sleep doctor, even though he had
access to my 2000 sleep study. You know, the one where I actually did
sleep..
