How to be your own DME???

Post by Joe A » Thu Mar 03, 2005 6:01 pm

Guys:

A little guidance here. If I wanted to fire my DME and get 100% of my supplys from CPAP.com. What do I need to do to get insurance re-imbursement. Also How would I go about getting say pressure adjustments on my Bi-Level Machine without a RT from a DME supplier. The deal now is that onlt RT's can fiddle with the controls, the equiptment companies cannot divulge the secret of how to dial in pressure ratings to the general public per the FDA.

Read on Joe, Welcome aboard, There are no secrets here. Just answers. Whatever you want/need to change we can do it. Or just phone cpap.com help line 800 356-5221.

What was that about the FDA ?

Cheers,

Chris

Joe A,

Fire the evil DME

Call your insurance company and ask them if you can file your own claim. This is what I did. I have never used a DME, just talked to a dozen of them about what they would do for me and what they would charge. You would have thought I had the plague by the way I was treated. Then I called cpap.com and was given answers to all the questions I asked without hesitation. Next time I'm in the market for a mask I'm going to start calling around (just for fun, cause I know where I'm going to end up making my purchase)

Your on the right track, educating yourself and becoming your own DME. As long as you aadjust your machine per your doctors instructions, there is no FDA regulations on changing the settings on your machine. I change mine frequently.

Good luck!
Sincerely,

The receipt from cpap.com has the billing codes on it. Cant say about reimbursement as of yet (still waiting) But a lot of that is dependent on your insurance company. Make sure you talk to them about it. Some require compliance data, some won't allow a purchase without rental first...

Joe A,

Chris P is not on the cpap.com helpline, but he has used it many times (so have I). The folks you'll talk to will treat you great, so don't hesitate to give them a call.
