I get the idea there must be some kind of "secret documentation" on the remstar auto cflex and encore pro. For instance how do people know about the "split night study" capability etc? And how do people know exactly what the various indices in encore pro reports mean? I realize some (maybe most) of it is through thought and observation but some of it seems very specific and non-intuitive and must be in docs somewhere. I would REALLY like to get my hands on these... please?

secret documentation
The clinicians manual that your dme removed from the box before you got your cpap has this information.
Then he sold it on Ebay

Beware of the evil DMEs.

jjb,
On the split-night study: take a look at page 6 of the Clinicians Manual under Set the Ramp Time.
I think the other terms are in common usage, ie all indices are in events/hour. A question I had though is just how Respironics defines its snores etc. and just how reliable the detection is.
Interesting you should ask the question however. On my first follow-up visit to the RT with my REMStar Plus I had to take the machine along so he could check compliance. I told him that I knew how to change the settings, and he said that if I ever did that he would set my machine so that I would never be able to do it again. I had the feeling he wasn't joking. Maybe there is some extra settings beyond the clinician's manual descriptions.
derek

Hey Derek,
Tweak with judicious abandon! (an oxymoron, but, hey..who's counting? lol)
jjb, it's the clinician's manual (or set-up instructions) that most DMEs guard jealously, giving the patient only the "user" manual. Patients, as a class of people, are not intelligent enough to learn how to handle this glorified leaf blower treatment themselves, ya know.
Thankfully there are some sensible vendors in this world, like cpap.com who ship BOTH manuals - the Users Manual and the really important one - the Home Health Care Provider's Set-Up Instructions (or "Clinician's Manual") with every machine.
There are also quite a few good people on the message board who are willing to send the "clinician's instructions" for just about any machine to a person who contacts them via PM (private message.)

Heh, hollow threat, imho. A lot of them do enjoy trying to keep patients under their thumb.I told him that I knew how to change the settings, and he said that if I ever did that he would set my machine so that I would never be able to do it again. The sad part is, though we decry the DMEs for acting just this way, nevertheless, for the majority of patients, it's actually true. Sadly, this is probably why they treat us this way, because they don't have the inclination to figure out which of us really can handle having the information.rested gal wrote:Patients, as a class of people, are not intelligent enough to learn how to handle this glorified leaf blower treatment themselves, ya know.
Liam, desparate to feel special and smarter than the "average patient".
I love quotes like this one, because one makes a conscious decision to take it in the nicest manner possible, knowing that the original writer MAY be using "special" in the same sense as "special education".snoozin' wrote:I guarantee - you are NOT average and you are VERY special.
Liam, who not only RODE a short bus, he DRIVES one. (With four kids, can you blame him?)
