Pressure and events higher with alcohol?

Post by Lee Lee » Mon Sep 18, 2006 8:40 am

Just have to ask. There's been lots of special events in my life lately (daughter got married, football parties, tons of company, etc.) and I haven't been shy about bellying up to the bar!
I've noticed higher than normal HI, AHI and AI, also pressure goes up a few notches when I've had some cocktails.
Anyone else?

The alcohol relaxes your airway musscles and makes them collapse even more-hence the high numbers/number of events.

Does this mean people with OSA should not drink alcohol?

Moderation, moderation, moderation.

It does indicate that if one drinks variably, i.e. sometimes not at all and sometimes a few pops and some times lots and lots and lotsa pops then it would be better to have an auto titrating machine instead of a straight CPAP. It would seem that if one has two drinks a night every night of the week then it would be good to have those two drinks before a sleep study.

Me, I don't drink for other health problems not as a matter of principle. If I weren't obese, somewhat sensitive to alcohol and didn't suffer from GERD I would not pass up my favorite beers or a little Jack now and then.

Oh, yes, drinking makes my GERD worse, which affects my sleep. Makes me wonder why I do it?

If you must ... try and do it when you first wake up rather than right before going to sleep ... of course your employer may not like that idea

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

Early dinner and a glass of wine-with plenty of water and a B vitamin to get the alcohol out of your system before bedtime. It may be folklore-never tested the recommendation. (The early part yes but not the water & B vits.)
For the belly up to the bar for a couple pints occasions-do it when you don't have to work or go to sleep.
