lack of contact

Post by lmrwoody » Wed May 24, 2017 8:17 am

I've been waiting for Home care to call me for my appointment for a long time and I'm still suffering from sleep-apnea. I called last week and they said they would call. This is Wednesday so how long do I have to wait? I'm not only getting tired in the morning and noon and afternoon and having stupid dreams, now I'm getting pissed because you don't want to let me know when you can see me.

Call your insurance company and ask if there are any other DMEs in your area that they have a contract with that you could switch to.

If you have Medicare...you can check your zip code to see who else in your area works with Medicare.

Then call them up and see who can get things together for you the quickest.

Just a few minutes earlier:

"When I was first diagnosed as having sleep-apnea I weighed 250 pounds and had all the symptoms. My doctor told me to lose weight and go on a diet. So, I went on a no starch diet[ no bread, no potatoes, no rice and no pasta. I went to the gym and got on a treadmill for half an hour and burned 300 calories 3 times a week. After 2 months I now weigh 218 and feel like a new man. Sleeping much better, not so many dreams, not tired in the morning, no naps in the afternoon. I eat eggs and bacon and coffee in the morning, I do have a BLT at lunch even though it's bread and I have baked cod with vegetables at supper with jello and light whipped cream for desert. I do have trail mix for a snack. Try It!!!! "

Well which is it?

When I don't get a timely response, I increase my call frequency.
First daily, then twice daily, then hourly.
Several of the folks recognize my voice and say Hi Bob before I mention my name. They will then move on to a progress report or excuse. I have had them tell me it will take 10 to 15 business days, then call back in an hour with an approval.

If you are pleasant but persistent you can get results.

It can also help to cross pollinate. Call the provider. Call the insurance. In my case there is also a medical management group that must approve what the doctor orders before a provider can do anything. I call them all and ask for their assistance in prodding the others.

Very wise, Bob.
I had an issue with my DME, and ended up on a 3-way conference call with them, in their office, and my insurance.
It worked.
