I've only been using a CPAP for 2 months now. I am also a TMJ sufferer and somewhat claustrophobic. Besides the CPAP-Pro, does anyone have any suggestions on a mask to try? Lots of straps and headgear are not an option... Thanks for any suggestions!
Sleep Apnea & TMJ
Do you wear an oral device for the TMJ at night? If not see if your dentist thinks it would be a good idea as some masks might aggravate the TMJ. Masks are highly individual. What one person loves another hates. Things to consider in buying a mask in addition to your TMJ and cp. Are you a: side, back or stomach sleeper; mouth breather or do your lips go to a slightly open position when you are relaxed?
I find the Hybrid very comfortable-but after a month I am still working on it to decrease leaks and improve my numbers. I also like Fisher-Paykel Flexifit masks-think they have 3 sizes. If that is too confining, have you looked at the nasal pillows? Phone around to the DME's in your area to see if any have different interfaces to look at or even try on. It seems that any given mask works straight from the box for some people, some people find it comfortable but leaks a lot so they try to work on it, and for some people it isn't comfortable enough to be worth any effort at making it work. And if your face doen't have the typical contours masks can be harder to fit. So try to find a way to try some on.
