How can this be?

Post by cpapjack » Fri Sep 15, 2006 8:53 am

I'm kinda stumped on this one. I used my Breeze mask last night and used Rested Gal's strap mod. This worked aboslutely great. Mask was more comfrotable than out of the box and no leaks, or so I thought. When I looked at my data on the LCD screen this morning. I couldn;'t believe what I saw!!

My numbers were:

95% pressure - 11.2 (not unusual, as I slept on my back most of the night)
Leak Rate - .7 (this is the highest it's ever been)
AHI - 7.5 (again, this is the highest it's ever been post sleep study)
AI - .2 (one of the lowest it's ever been)
HI - 7.3

As far as mouth breathing goes, yes I'm a mouth breather. I normally don't tape, as my Tiara Ruby chin strap has actually been working quite well. but I decided to last night. I think the whole lower half of my face was covered with tape so as to try and make sure I had no leakage from my mouth.

Now I know numbers don't always matter, it's how you feel. Well that's the other thing. I'm not sure. I do notice that I'm yawning alot more than usual. My body doesn't feel tired, but I'm sure if I tried, I could take a nap.

Any thoughts?

Jack,

Did you change the mask selection on your machine?

Cpapjack,
I'm no expert, as some of the others are, but I can tell you that even if I tape my mouth, if I don't use my Tiara chin strap, I get those same kinds of numbers. ( I have the same APAP you do.)
It seems that at higher pressures,(anything over 10) air is going into my mouth and making my cheeks puff out.It doesn't come out of my mouth. The strap seems to hold my cheeks in and forces the air back up where it's supposed to be.
Also, one other thought, did you change the mask setting on the machine to be compatible with the Breeze?

Den,

No. When I first got the Breeze two weeks ago, I remember reading through some of Rested Gal's posts about the Breeze. One them was the leak rate. She suggested using the Activa selection for the breeze, as it seemed to have the lowest leak rate of the Resmed masks.

I do not have the blowfish syndrome.

I did not change the selection. Per on of Rested Gal's posts, she suggested using the Activa selection, which it's already on that as that is my main mask.
