NUMBER GIVEN WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR SLEEP TEST

What type of interface (mask) are you using? ... perhaps you are having leaks of some sort? ... What is your equipment setup?

I went and looked at my set up and I have 2 machines. Both are made by ResMed. They both Say Sullivan also. One is a HumidAire and the other is a Sullivan V #22400 LightWeight with a sticker that says "2000 Compliant". These were used machines, but not very much I was told. You know, the little old man who only drove to church on sundays kinda machine. Well they were free, and they work, so who am I to complain ? I have no insurance and not enough money to upgrade to something better either.

I just went to check it and there was water in the air machine, so I emptied it right away and it is still working. Phew! Guess I better be more careful with the water level.

I only use one pillow and sleep on my right side or my back, changing often throught the night. I have a nasel pillow mask and the tube runs up my right side of my face to overhead. I don't have any leaks that I know of, but may call and talk with the Sleep Clinic Dr. next week and ask a few questions of her.

I have one more question. Will I ever be able to get "cured"? I'm 295 lbs and 56 years of age. Married and very sedentary. I have a laundry list of other diagnosis that I am also dealing with. Does anyone ever get "cured"?? Just curious. I need something to look forward to these days.

As I understand it, those of us with severe OSA will generally need to be on the hose for the rest of our lives ... although there may always be a few exceptions. The good news is that the PAP treatment will generally improve many of our other health issues including the ability to lose weight which in turn helps improve health too. It will provide you with more energy so that you can become less sedentary ... In other words, it will help stop the bad cycle of degrading health and give you the opportunitiy to reverse the cycle and improve your health. May not be as good as a cure but it is the next best thing.

I think your machines are a little older than mine and I'm not familiar with them. Perhaps someone else will chime in here and comment on those and provide you with more advice.

They don't usually give you a number without attaching to it a descriptor of what it represents. O_o

I mean, you wouldn't go to a doctor and have him just say "120 over 80." and send you on your way. He would say "your blood pressure is 120 over 80, that's normal. $125 please."

I don't believe you're actually "cured", much like you're not cured of hypertension by taking BP meds.
But you certainly do have something to look forward to, because you're taking positive steps to improve the quality of your life.

There is no cure for OSA. Only treatment (very effective treatment, though).

Thanks for everyones replies. Even if OSA had a cure, I have so many other things I am dealing with, I'm not sure I would notice, LOL. My real hopes are that I will start waking up refreshed sometime. All in all, I am doing better than 6 months agao. I was a total zombie then. Now I am only tried when I wake up and need to sleep 8 or more hours a night.

Speaking of sleep, I'm off to bed. Nighty nite!
