pressure changes and my discussion with my RT

Post by cflame1 » Fri Sep 08, 2006 6:11 am

I finally got through to my RT yesterday. After a discussion with him to talk about what I'm seeing in Encore he recommended a pressure change. Looks like it's going to go up 4 to 5 points on the top end (was set to 8 and I've bumped it to 9... he's talking about 14). Wonder if I'll sleep better? It's been since May and I haven't felt totally rested yet.

I tried talking to my GP about this, but she constantly refers me back to the RT... as she doesn't know anything about OSA. I delivered the reports to her and she didn't even want to look at them, so she sent them to the RT. So... I guess that I deal with him for now. At least he's willing to listen, unlike a yahoo that I got in his office while he was out on a business trip. It's to the point that I either talk to him... or I talk to nobody.

I would have just changed the pressure myself, but it's kind of like me and my investments... I don't know enough about them... so that's why I pay somebody who understands them to look after them... like a mechanic and my car. The RT asked if I was planning on going to school to study sleep medicine and I said no... I just like learning about what these things mean. So, whether he realizes it or not... he's been delegated to teach me... at least when it comes to my health.

He knows exactly what I've done and the software that I have to monitor it myself and is willing to work with me to get it right. Who knows, maybe it'll work best this way. Can't be any worse than going off a sleep study where the doctor that studied it I've never met and admitted on the PSG that the pressure was just a guess.

Oh yeah... I'd better put this in too... he's at Lincare.

You've just given one of the best arguments for use of an APAP that I've seen in a while. Would it be possible for you to change over to an APAP?? Just a thought.

What pressure did your titration dictate?

The maximum pressure was 8! Good grief, what was the minimum?
May I suggest a minimum of 8.0 and a maximum of 14. Then save the daily data for one month and see where the machine leads you.

OSA is 'kinda' like diabetes. You must take charge of your own therapy.
Nobody knows you as well as you...
+ Aussie heated hose.

oldgearhead... it was 5-8... the PSG had it pegged as 8 and I complained enough that they changed me from a straight CPAP to an APAP (months ago).
