Difficulty waking up

Post by Nenetx2004 » Tue Sep 05, 2006 10:03 am

I've been using CPAP for nearly two years now. I was pretty active in the forum at first but lately I've just been lurking and learning from my fellow hoseheads

About a month ago, I began having trouble waking up. I would hit the snooze many time without realizing it. My mom would call me, I'd take off my mask, answer the call and then put the mask back on and go to sleep without being aware of it. I have a back up alarm clock across the room but the same thing happens. I get up, turn it off, and go back to sleep. I get to bed at reasonable times during the week and my fatigue level isn't too bad. I've gone without Ambien, without Melatonin, without any allergy meds and this still happens.

Fortunately, my employer is really understanding and I've been adjusting my work schedule. I have an appointment with my neurologist next week but was wondering if anyone else has come across this.....

Thanks!

Jeanne

Hello Jeanne,

Yes, I remember your "moniker" from when I started. Good to see you posting again.....but sorry to hear you're having problems.
Could you either fill in your profile or tell us what equipment you have, what your pressure is, what mask you're using, etc.?
I suspect, that if you're using a nasal mask, you might be leaking air out your mouth during the night.....

Anyway, please give us some more info to work with.

Best wishes,

yes, i too, can sleep through any alarm or set of alarms. so this is what i do: i bought a bright light on ebay, the kind used for seasonal affected disorder and i put that on a $10 timer.i use it as an alarm clock by setting it to go on at my wake time. the light is so bright that it wakes me up on time. i set both sound and light alarms.

you also can hook your alarm clock up to some stereo speakers and set it for radio full blast. but i can sleep through that, too.

the sad lights things are not cheap, so it pays to find one barely used on ebay or yahoo. or maybe a plant light would do the same thing.

I probably should have included my equipment, etc.....I have a Resmed Auto Spirit, I use either a Ultra mirage Full Face mask or the Activa nasal. When I use the nasal, I tape my mouth so there won't be any leakage......
