Meh. If it was me, I just wouldn't really worry that much about it.
I certainly think any solution would be way more trouble than it's worth. The extent I'd go to is asking them if you can use the power outlet for any 110 device or if it's really just something like 12v dc for laptop and other dc items.

Therapy during flight

If its a big issue to get therapy onboard and your pressure is 12 or less, get the BreatheX. Done deal!

Here's a handy link:

On the Continental Boeing 777, looks like all they have is EM power, which is just 15V, for laptops and takes a special adapter.

I used my S8 on a flight to London last month (before the latest restrictions so check again if you can use it now.)

To make it work I needed to buy the Resmed 12v adaptor (DC-12) which has a cigarette style plug. That can be ordered online for about $70 and is easy to find. A bigger problem was ironically the Empower to cigarette plug adaptor. I saw them online for prices up to $30! Unfortunately I only got my DC-12 at the last minute and didn't have time to look for a cheaper adaptor online. My solution was to find an APC 12v--->110v inverter in a local store, this comes with an empower-to-cigarette adaptor and costs about $40. Using the adaptor that came with the APC I was able to power the S8 for the whole flight with no problems.

I flew BA and checked their policy about CPAP online before flying. They are ok about using seat power for this BUT they don't garentee the power for "critical medical" equipment. The crew had a tendency to turn off seat power whenever they needed people's attention though fortunately not during the cruise phase.

I see Bob has linked my previous thread on this, which covers most of the options.

You can get Empower to Cigarette lighter socket adapters off eBay for about US$5 or so (see eBay seller "ultimatehut"). I ended up buying one as it has other uses for my overall "road-warrior" mobile power needs, but I'm sticking with the TeleAdapt power solution to run my CPAP for my upcoming trip (just 5 days to go... woohoo!)

By the way, the TeleAdapt unit turned out to be manufactured by APC, so is probably the same as the APC unit referred to in a post above by Fletch.

Anyway, with an Empower to Cigarette lighter socket adpater plus a Resmed DC-12 you can technically run an S8 off the power available from an Empower outlet at an airline seat. It would be prudent to confirm with Continental that they are actually happy for you to do that.

I spoke to both QANTAS and British Airways to check they were happy with my planned usage of CPAP on their long haul flights sectors I am doing with them, and neither had any problems. You need to make sure you speak with someone in the "Special Handling" section (at least that is what both QANTAS and BA call the function), as they are they one who have the definitive authority to make a call on what you are able to do in the aircraft cabin.

Cheers,

Bill
