Best High Pressure Full Face Mask?

Post by Mikesus » Sun Feb 27, 2005 8:02 am

Well, I am finding that I am running avg 14 - 15cm/H2O nightly. I have an Ultra Mirage FF mask. Problem is that above 12 or so, it is hard not to leak. If I crank up the straps, it actually causes enough pressure on face to affect nasal breathing...

I know that the Ultra Mirage FF is the most recommended, but anyone have luck at higher pressures?

Beginning to think that FF and high pressure are mutual exclusives...

Until and if the ResMed Mirage Activa Full Face is a reality, my guess is, your statement is true.

Not what I was hoping to hear... I think I am going to opt for a lower pressure and higher AHI...

Gosh

Gosh, and here I was thinking about maybe getting a full face mask for those situations when my nose is stuffy, as in a cold. (I hate using nose sprays and medication if I can help it). But my required pressure is high, so maybe from these comments, this might not be a good idea. Oh dear.

It took about 7 or 8 nights for me to get my Ultra FF adjusted correctly. My final pressure at night (using a 420E) usually goes up to 16. The first few nights, I had the mask too tight! Yep, I loosened it up and then started small adjustments and now it seems to be working just fine.

Well I think my problem might have been the seal. I got a mask off Yahoo auctions, (one normally used for a sleep study) and swapped the seal. The new seal is much better.

Hope that solves it...

LDuyer,

I think you and I are running the same pressures (18/14). I am also having problems with clogged nose so I called my doctor and he has had my DME order a Fisher/Peykel full face mask for me. Is supposed to be in this week. I'll let you know how it works. I have also read in some threads here that that mask is not recommended for use with a bipap. I have sent an email to F/P to ask them but have not received a reply. I am also wondering how I can tolerate that much pressure in my face.

Hoping for the best.

Gilda

Thanks, Gilda. I look forward to hearing how it works for you. I had asked my doctor (the one who seems correct but has horrible patient skills) if a FF would be a good idea, just for the purpose of congestion. He kept saying that because of the structure of my face/head/chin, it wouldn't work well. How flattering! He said, just use nose sprays. Well, I don't want to have to rely on those sprays. But I am interested in what you find out. It's not like I'm asking for an everyday solution, but it would be nice to have that as a backup solution. Thanks again.
