Bags under my eyes

Post by cpapjack » Fri Sep 01, 2006 9:33 am

Is it normal to still have bags under your eyes since I'm sleeping better or is this something that won't go away? I've always had bags under my eyes and I thought once I started treatment and started sleeping better, they'd go away. But they haven't.

I don't know, but I have noticed that since starting cpap therapy, my eyes are "wet" in the am. Eye boogers as some call it. What's up with that?

Jack,

I've still got mine, too. Too many years of too little sleep (good or bad). I attribute some of it to the profession and age. Mine don't seem to be as dark as they used to be.....I take that as a good sign.

Melissa,

I think the wetness in your eyes could be from small air leakage in the nose area of your mask. I have it occasionally, too. One wouldn't think that if your eyes are shut that that would happen, but I believe that may be what it is.

Best wishes,

Den

I don't have bags but my dark circles have lightenend up and my bloodpressure has dropped enough for me to cut my blood pressure medication in half. Plus (and most importantly) I have so much more energy.
Aah, the benefits of CPAP!

Cpapjack, circles under the eyes, at least my understanding, is a genetic thing. This article used bags and circles interchangably.

Some have this issue worse than others. I'm curious, do your siblings or parents have this problem (assuming they are sleeping normal and are not sleep deprived too). I think that your bags may improve over time, but you may just be one of those people who is stuck with this feature. I hope I'm wrong for your sake. Just look at this as an interesting facial feature instead of something to worry about.

Keep on papping.

I think that after a while they begin to consider your face home & move in more or less permanently. Allergies also contribute to dark circles-then they are euphemistically called allergy shiners rather than dark bags. Works for me.

I don't have bags under my eyes but instead have puffiness under the eyes and on the sides of my nose at the bridge. The better I sleep, the more puffy the eyes so I'm sure it's related to the cpap. It is usually gone in a couple hours and I consider it my prize for a good night's sleep. I do have allergies but this is different from my shiners and I don't have any darkness. I would guess it's like the gas some suffer with...all that air has to go somewhere.

Outside of dogs I like best to read. Inside a dog, it's too dark.

I have two theories because of bags that really jump out sometimes since starting on xPAP. Could the straps restrict lymph circulation providing lymphedema? Since it seems to be quite variable, I lean toward this explanation versus my other thought that it might be related to pressure of treatment within the sinuses? Or maybe it's backed up tears that we want to shed because the masks are such a P.I.T.B.
