well, after trying to use the respironics gel mask for parts of three weeks, I have given up on it. My pressure is only at 6 but the thing will not seal no matter what I do. At this point, I feel better in the morning with apnea interrupted sleep rather than leaky mask interrupted sleep(and thats saying something considering I feel like crap with apnea sleep). I ordered a res med full face and it should arrive in the next few days. Here is hoping for the best on that one.

The good news is that my insurance does not have any limitation on the number of masks I can order. As long as my doc/preferred provider says I need a different one, they will pay 70% of it. Also when I talked to them today about a cpap machine, they said that they usually prefer a one month rental at first with a purchase after the first month. When I asked if I could rent for a second month before purchase(to try it out further), they told me that's not how they usually do it, but that would "probably" be OK. Sounds backwards to me, but I'll take it.

It has been said a number of times, if the mask says Respironics, comfort is not included...

Day for Night,

I just attended an Apnea supprt meeting last night where a Rep from Respironics did a presentation. That particular mask was described as almost impossible to get to leak. I knew otherwise but kept my mouth shut because I'd chimed in enough for one evening.

I'd suggest trying the Resmed Mirage Activa or the Resmed Mirage Swift (nasal pillows). The two interfaces are much superior to all others and received very good response from forum members.

Glad to hear you are able to try multiple masks.
Sincerely,

Try almost impossibe to get not to leak. The thing is a pile of blue gel mush.

I Dont know if it's a left over from the flu last week, but I'm having congestion problems. So I just decided to get the res med ultra mirage ff and even paid for it out of pocket(thank you cpap.com). I'll try one of the others you mentioned after my next sleep doc appointment. Insurance can pay part of the next one.

You've chosen a good FF mask to order, day-for-night. On the next round, Wader's suggestions are excellent - the Activa nasal mask and Swift pillows mask.

My favorites are the Breeze/nasal pillows, Activa and the FF mask you're getting. Glad you have good insurance!

I concur with the Ultra Mirage, the Activa and the Swift. I've never tried the Breeze.

And I agree, the Respironics rep was 100% correct, he just accidentally omitted the word "not" as in "almost impossible to get to NOT leak".

Liam, agreeing with the big dogs.

day for night,

Yea, that’s the mask I started out with because I thought it would be best to have the mask and machine from the same manufacturer. Wow was I wrong! If I’d have found this forum before I ordered the machine I could have saved myself the cash.
