"Overtighten"...

Post by JCraig » Wed Aug 30, 2006 8:27 am

Am I the only one that finds "do not overtighten straps" to be incredibly vague and annoying? I mean... DEFINE OVERTIGHTEN. What one person thinks is too tight might be fine for another. There needs to be a better way to provide instructions on how much to tighten these things.

Well, I would say that if your nasal mask is falling down over your mouth, it's probably a little too loose.....and if your eyes are bulging out, it's probably a tad bit too tight.

LOL, yeah, obviously, but there's a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge range in between those two extremes!

And it takes every bit of the range to get it right, and them at 4 AM you have to change the range again. Jim

JCraig,

Sorry, I just couldn't pass that one up.....

I don't care what mask/interface you're using, it's a real "balancing act" to try to get the right tension. Too loose and they leak, too tight and they leak (and are uncomfortable) and then the headgear will (in most cases) stretch.

Good luck finding (and keeping) the "sweet spot".

headgear

If you have red lines on your face when you wake up, it's too tight. Since the material that the masks are made of are designed to let your skin breathe, they will stretch. That's why most insurances allow for replacement every 6 months. If you take a pen and make a mark on the headgear where the clip is, then it's easier to return to that sweet spot and or make the correct adjustments after it's stretched.
