Hi Snoredog,

I have Barrett's Esophagus which apparently was caused by acid reflux although I never really noticed the symptoms of reflux. The specialist prescribed PrevAcid (he is not a quack) and assured me at the time this was the way to go with few if any side effects. Have been on the medication almost three years now and so far he was right - no other issues and the ulcer has healed. I still get it checked annually via Gastroscopy and if all goes well this procedure should be limited to every two or three years. I am told I will always be on the PrevAcid right now at $140/month, only in Canada eh! Thank heaven for drug plan.

I appreciate your description of the LES and alternate methods to reduced acid reflux. However, it sounds like some of the posters do not necessarily have reflux, and as you indicated may simply be swallowing air due to high xPAP pressure and/or weak LES muscle. Now I know this is going to sound dumb, but what if a person wore a girdle or something at night to keep a slight pressure on the stomach. Would this help control the air being swallowed? Anyway just a thought, and I am not trying to be silly although it may sound that way.

OK, everybody take a shallow breath - STOP, that's enough. Now burp. See, couldn't do it could you!

I suggest you talk with your doctor. As you can see from the posts, there are meany reasons you may be experiencing acid reflux. It is not uncommong with OSA -- I started experiencing it prior to my sleeping with CPAP. I was eating Tums like crazy and when I talked with my doctor (not my sleep doctor because he is an *&*, but my internist) he gave me a scrip, unfrotunately I can not remember the name. But he said if my indegestion/acid reflux continued after 2 weeks I should have endoscopy.

I too suffer from swallowing air and its frustrating side effects. Reading other forums, I learned that a wedge pillow could help. This helps elevate the head and presumably with the body at this angle, the problem is solved
Amazon has a pillow with excellent reviews; just ordered and hoping it works..
