Feeling better w/ diff. mask types, even w/ same numbers...?

Post by JCraig » Wed Aug 30, 2006 9:19 am

Does it make any sense that one would "feel better" after using a certain mask type, even if they got the same numbers in their data as the other mask type?

I mean... I had what I think is horrible sleep last night. It took forever to get to sleep (I doubt that's mask related though) and I woke up quite a bit. I was trying the Aura, but finally gave up and put on my old HC405 (a traditional nasal mask) and ... I feel really good today. My numbers in Encore are more or less the same as usual. But I feel better than I have the last week (when I'd been using a Breeze).

Does this make any sense whatsoever? Can mask type affect how you feel, even if you're getting the same numbers?

ABSOLUTELY!!!
I used a Comfortfull 2 mask for a few nights.....got some good numbers, but it wasn't as comfy as my UMFF and I felt that my sleep was a little more disturbed because of the comfort factor. It may take awhile to get the CF2 broke in and it would be a backup in case my UMFF falls apart (which I doubt that it will).

I'll second that -- I've tried several masks, and I noticed that with some of the full-face masks, even though I got more or less the same numbers, I felt more tired the next day. I wonder if it's related to CO2 rebreathing? I know they design the masks to 'wash out' CO2 as needed, but it seems like with the larger mask area of a full-face mask, you'd be more at risk for rebreathing CO2 than with a nasal mask. Whatever it is, I feel best using my Activa, even with equal numbers...
