Need New Machine - Opinions Please

Post by Chikorita » Fri Apr 08, 2016 5:50 pm

Hi There,

I need a new machine
I have a Resmed s9 Autoset with humidifier. Bought in 2012.

Is there anything new on the market or should I replace it with the same machine?
I'm in Australia so will be buying privately, not with insurance etc.

Any opinions appreciated.

My first thought for you would be to contact

and see if they can help you, ship to you, etc.

Ah, Airsense is the newest ResMed? Thank you. I've not investigated models since 2012. Looking now.

it's the primarily external form factor change. the inner works, blower and such, appear to be the same as the s9... hard to improve on that model

Except that the good ones retain more data for up to a year,
and the algorithm in the Airsense 10 for Her is improved to respond more quickly and records more data.
The sound level is pretty much the same.
I really like mine better than my old S9 Autoset.

good point, better data retention on the sd card, and the new autoset for her algo.

Is the 'for her' option really that much better? I thought it was a marketing ploy.

It's another programming option for people who fit a certain breathing pattern.
This was posted by somebody awhile back.

And in case of the For Her Mode that she is using it treats Apneas up to 12 cm pressure. This is from the manual.

The device analyzes the state of the patient’s upper airway on a breath-by-breath basis and delivers pressure within the allowed range according to the degree of obstruction. The AutoSet algorithm adjusts treatment pressure as a function of three parameters: inspiratory flow limitation, snore, and apnea.

The AutoSet for Her is similar to ResMed’s AutoSet algorithm with the following modifications:
· Reduced rate of pressure increments designed to help prevent arousals.
· Slower pressure decays.
· Treats apneas up to 12 cm H2O and continues to respond to flow limitation and snore up to 20 cm H2O.

and more (you left off what is possibly the best bit)! what the manual says is:

AutoSet for Her mode
AutoSet for Her mode is based on key aspects of ResMed’s AutoSet algorithm and delivers therapeutic responses tailored to the characteristics of female OSA patients.
The AutoSet for Her is similar to ResMed’s AutoSet algorithm with the following modifications:
  • Reduced rate of pressure increments designed to help prevent arousals.
  • Slower pressure decays.
  • Treats apneas up to 12 cm H 2 O and continues to respond to flow limitation and snore up to 20 cm H 2 O.
  • Minimum pressure (Min. Pressure) that adjusts according to the frequency of apneas:
If two apneas occur within a minute, the pressure reached in response to the second apnea will become the new minimum treatment pressure until the next treatment session.
Patients who use AutoSet for Her will still get the benefits of ResMed's AutoSet technology including improved sensitivity to flow-limitation and Central Sleep Apnoea Detection with Forced Oscillation Technique.

How does the Airsense 10 for her respond more quickly? How? It sounds great. Will we sleep even better now?
