Jaw pain

Post by Perry3t » Thu Mar 31, 2016 3:38 am

Hello forum I am new to the cpap world and have a couple of questions. I'm using nasal pillows and it seems when I sleep on my side or stomach, I'm awakened by the left side of my jaw being pushed forward. I move it back but am concerned about the effects of this always happening. I've only had a cpap for about 2 weeks. Does anyone know if this improves when sleeping on your back? Should I consult my cpap specialist about this? Or should I talk to my dentist about an oral device?

Hi Perry,

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, mention this to your cpap specialist although I would definitely consult a dentist to make sure you don't have any pre-existing dental issues prior to starting pap therapy.

A mouthguard might be helpful but again, talk to your dentist about that.

Another unlikely thing to consider but I will mention it anyway. A few years ago, I also started getting mysterious jaw pain that the dentist had no answer for. It resolved when I lowered my vitamin D dose from 5000IU to 3000IU. Could have been totally coincidental but the pain never returned. So if you're taking alot of Vitamin D, that could possible be a culprit.

Best of luck.
