DME specialist

Post by festo » Tue Mar 22, 2016 1:31 pm

I have been on a cpap machine for 16 months and I am not sure my DME specialist set my machine up properly.
When ever I ask a question I get a run around for an answer, like they don't know what I should have for settings.
How can I be assured if they have set my machine up with the proper settings. I know the sleep doctor tells them what my pressure should be set at but what other settings would she specifically tell them to set up.
It appears to me they make the rest of the settings them selves, but I am not comfortable with them having the knowledge to make the settings as they see fit.

You should have gotten a copy of your prescription from your doctor and/or your DME when they set up your machine.
If you DON'T have a copy of it.......GET IT! You're entitled to it.

Then, learn how to get into the clinical setup of your machine......write down the settings and compare them to your prescription.
Since you didn't mention which machine you have, we can't give you the directions.......until you do.

But, you wouldn't be the first person to have their machine incorrectly configured.
So, take charge of your own therapy and then your mind will be at ease.

I don't let anyone, including doctors or DMEs, touch my CPAP. The settings are my responsibility.

For your own peace of mind, you should be familiar with the basic way your machine works and also how to change or, at least, be able to confirm your pressure settings via the LCD screen. My feeling is that people who work at DME's aren't that highly paid and could simply get it wrong... the worst case scenario is that they just don't give a damn. I've personally experienced both types.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
