borden99

Post by macminn18 » Fri Mar 11, 2016 2:11 pm

I need a new cpap machine, and am confused as to where to start. My current machine is a RemStar Plus M series, bipap, C-flex. My current machine doesn't have a memory card in it. My clinic wants me to have that.

About me. I have a slight amount of claustrophobia, so can't wear a full mask, I do fine with nasal pillows. I also like the machines that let me exhale more naturally. I still have my old machine at out lake home, that is similar to sleeping in a hurricane to me.

I just started my research, but what do I look for? I do travel a fair amount.

Thank you for helping point me in the right direction.

What is Borden 99 - as a subject header?

Other than that, you want an autopap (if nothing else, it will do Cpap mode, but a plain Cpap won't do auto). Don't get anything with Plus or Escape in the name because it won't allow you to track any useful info overnight on software, such as Sleepyhead, with a CD card - I'm not referring to the compliance info the insurance co's require so they'll keep paying for the machines.

Go for the same brand but the latest Bipap version.

machines and masks are not related to each other.

If you are buying the new machine with insurance money, the script should allow you to get any bilevel that a DME is willing to set you up with.

It would be worthwhile if the doc at the clinic would write a script that specifies that you need a machine that records full efficacy data.

Are you using Flex on your M-series Plus?
I just started my research, but what do I look for? I do travel a fair amount.
The two most common brands of bilevels you see on the board are the Resmed AirCurve 10 model and the PR DreamStation BiPAP models. The PR DreamStations are the current machine made by the maker of your M-series REMStar BiPAP Plus.

Both the AirCurve 10s and the DreamStations have exhalation relief. Both are smaller and quieter than your M-Series. Both will work well with the nasal pillows mask you prefer.

In the Resmed AirCurve 10 line, look for a Resmed AirCurve 10 Auto.

In the PR DreamStation line, look for a PR DreamStation BiPAP Pro or a PR DreamStation BiPAP Auto. The Auto CPAP is more flexible than the Pro since it can be run either BiPAP or Auto BiPAP mode.

The exhalation relief systems on DreamStations is quite a bit different from the C-Flex available on your machine. The Bi-Flex that come on the Pro and Auto respectively should provide more of a drop in pressure than the C-Flex system that might be on your old M-Series. But the drop in pressure on the PR machines varies from breath to breath and it depends on how strongly you exhale.

EDITED to correct a lot of mistakes.

OP has a Bipap now ...
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Get the Clinicians manual here : http://apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-press ... tup-manual

Thanks for pointing this out.

I've gone back and edited my post to reflect this.

The "Plus" threw me. On the PR System Ones, there is no such thing as a BiPAP Plus.

Oh, yes, there was. The following was copied from the "discontinued" letter from Respironics in 2010.
It was the "brick" of the M Series Bi-PAP line.

No I didn't. I saw it clearly. I was pointing out that there WAS a "Bi-PAP Plus in the M Series". Of course there was no "Plus" model in the System One Bi-PAP line. Fortunately, they managed to whittle some of the worthless machines out of their line over the years.

Den and Pale Rider,

You're splitting hairs that don't need to be split.

1) There was an M-Series BiPAP Plus that I didn't know about (until earlier today) since I wasn't PAPing way back when the M-Series was the latest thing on the block.

2) I saw the words M-series and Plus in the original post and missed the word BiPAP since I was not aware of the M-Series BiPAP Plus before GrayGhost pointed out my error.

3) I thanked GrayGhost for correcting my error and I edited my post so that it would not contain misinformation.
And pointed out why I made the mistake: I made the mistake because there was no System One BiPAP Plus, or a least not since I got my first S1 BiPAP back in Dec. 2010.

4) Neither GrayGhost nor myself had any more trouble with my original mistake, my correction, nor my apology.

But somehow the two of you are quibbling about the placement of a comma in my Thank You post to GrayGhost.

Seems like you both could find something more interesting to comment on.

I know. Isn't that the way things are on the forum???

Hopefully, now the OP will know that there aren't any more "Plus" models in the Bi-PAP line and only look for fully-data-capable machines. (if he/she is still following this thread)
