Another newbie here

Post by sleeperson » Tue Feb 16, 2016 9:32 am

Hi everyone,
Thank you for sharing on this forum, I've learn a lot already from just reading your posts. Been on cpap for about 3 weeks so i'm trying to figure out what some of the statistics mean. I've downloaded the sleepyhead software and see my results. I guess my first question would be...why would my AHI be 9.23 with a leak rate of .08? Anything else I can look to improve for better results?
Thanks and glad you're here.

Hi and welcome,
There could be more than one possibility why your AHI is elevated such as you didn't sleep well with the new setup, or your pressures aren't optimal yet. To start off we need to know your equipment and settings. This might help to register your equipment. wiki/index.php/Registering_Equipment_in_User_Profile

It's great that you have Sleepyhead up and running. It would be helpful to post a screenshot and this link will help with that. https://sleep.tnet.com/resources/sleepyhead/shorganize It shows you how to organize your graphs, take a screenshot and post using Imgur. It is 3 pages long so at the bottom of the page be sure and click on the link for the next page.

As far as understanding Sleepyhead this link will help. The links at the left of the page do not work but the ones in the article do. http://sleepyhead.sourceforge.net/wiki/ ... =Main_Page

To Oky,
Thank you!
I (sleeperson) registered under a different name (jchadha321) and hopefully saved my equipment to my profile. Here is a screenshot of my results.

Were you given these pressures from a sleep study and titration? And is this AHI typical?
Also your machine doesn't show up, sometimes the links don't work, so you can type it in the Edit Signature area and it will show below the dark line like my added equipment is listed. I can see from the Sleepyhead graph that you have the Respironics 560 APAP.
If this is a typical night's AHI then you diffently need some pressure changes.

You're right, my machine didn't show up. It's PR System One REMstar Auto CPAP Machine with A-Flex.
I added it in the Additional comments.

My prescription settings were supposed to be 6-8 on the pressure setting. I raised the top number last night to see if it would make any difference. I imagine that range is larger than it should be, so i will reset it. I guess i need to study a little more to understand. :-\

No your pressures actually need to be higher. If you look at your pressure graph you will see that the machine is hitting the top and not able to go higher to prevent your obstructions. I would set your minimum to 8 and it will probably need to go higher but start there and with the maximum I would put it at 20 for now. The top pressure at this point only will increase if you need it and if the pressure changes do not wake you up go with 20 maximum until you see where the machine is going and then tighten the range after you get that info.

Keep watching with Sleepyhead and posting your Screenshots. Then we can help you get it optimized.

Also on your screen shot if you turn off the pie chart (it's not really helpful) we can then see the statistics and machine details better. You can turn it off by going to File - Preferences -Appearance - Uncheck Show event break down pie chart

I was going to suggest raising the minimum to 8, and max to 20, but I see OkyDoky has already done that
