Mask comfort

Post by Tarred » Thu Aug 24, 2006 9:03 am

I've finally gotten to where I get 80% through the nite with my nasal mask on. I find myself waking up about 3 times a nite to re seat it on my face. By 4:30 I find that it is very uncomfortable. I have it adjusted as loosely as I can without having it leak, yet by morning It feelslike it's really pressing into my face. Any sugestions?

Name your mask!

Else no one can help, really.

I use a UltraMirage Full Face, I like it because I find it more comfortable than any other mask.

I also mouth breathe so I need it for that reason. It can at times be prone to more leaks than other masks but after a while you learn to sleep where it doesn't leak. Reports tell me if I'm developing leaks or not.

If you are new at cpap, just allow yourself time to get used to wearing the mask. If your mask is the UltraMirageII nasal mask it is a pretty good mask.

But what can happen is you start mouth breathing and the OSA events quickly return, you suffocate for air and find the mask on so you remove it from your face. You need to determine if you are mouth breathing and if so take steps to address it by going to a Full Face mask or possibly taping your mouth.

If you stay at it, you will eventually sleep through the night but it takes time.

I have the exact same problem with the F&P HC406 as well. I am told the waking up is normal as long as you fall right back asleep, which I do. I have the straps quite loose and the mask does feel like its suctioned to my face by 2 or 3 in the morning.

I suppose I need to play around with it to get it right. I have a full beard so it makes things uncomfortable at times. I will say though that the nasal mask seems to seal up despite the moustach.

I know I'm not mouth breating because when I do wake up my moouth isnt dry, like it used to be.

One of the problems I do keep having is that the harness wants to keep sliding up on me. I guess my heads shaped like a pair!!

Anyway thanks for the response. I;kk just keep plugging away.
