Getting fed up with rainout !

Started CPAP around 3 months ago, for some reason I am getting rainout now on a nightly basis when I never used to get it. I have done all the usual tricks, moved the machine down to bed level and put the heated hose on. I have it set to 3. I can't feel the heat but I presume it is working. But every night I get spluttering and water dripping down my throat and nose (I use nose pillows) and the bed often has a wet patch near my head. The hose is quite long, but it is just what came with the machine. I use the 560 System One. I can see all the water droplets within the hose.

Should I increase the heated hose to more than 3 ? Does this happen much to you ?

Are you using the heated hose (has a black end on it where it attaches to the humidifier lid) or a regular non heated hose.

Is your bedroom cooler now than it was 3 months ago?

I have moved rooms and it happens a lot more in this new room I am in now, so I guess that does explain a possible change, I thought the room was similar temp but might not be. Yes, I use the black end hose. I will give the info you posted a read. What setting do you put your heated hose on ?

EDIT : Noticed you mention a heated hose should eliminate the condensation in a hose, I see a lot in mine, any way of checking if the heated hose is actually working ? The non-heated hose part from the join on to the nasal pillows is quite long, I wonder if that is part of the reason ?

You need to know what causes "rainout". It's physics. Your machine is heating the water in your humidifier tank and generating warm humid air (adding water vapor to the air) and blowing it up a hose to you. While the air is warm, it can carry the water vapor. The warmer it is, the more vapor it can carry. When it cools, the capacity to carry that vapor is diminished and the vapor turns back into liquid. That's what causes "rainout"......vapor turning back into liquid because the surrounding air got cooler.
You either need to warm the surrounding environment or turn down the HH setting.

You've told us what your heated hose setting is........what is your HH setting?
You're going to need to experiment with your settings (or turn them off) to see what works in your bedroom.

In the winter I pretty much set the hose air temp to maximum because my bedroom gets really cold.

Your mask has a short hose that comes from the heated hose to the mask...is this where you are seeing the condensation or are you seeing it in the heated hose?

If the bedroom is cool enough the cool air will cool the air in the short hose after it leaves the heated hose section. That's why I max out my heat in the winter...to try to keep that air in the short hose a little warmer so it doesn't cool down to cause the release of the moisture.

Turn the hose air temp up to 4 or 5 and see if that helps.
You shouldn't have to change the actual humidifier setting unless you just want to. I keep mine the same year round and just alter the hose air temp as needed between the seasons.

I just added that short hose when I changed masks and am expecting rainout in our 55 deg F bedroom. If that happens, I plan to slide a sock onto the short hose to ack as a "hose cosy" - i.e. minimize loss of warmth. Have not needed to yet.
