Apologies for off-topic post.
Walking along Raleigh St. on UNC campus this morning, I saw a car stopped at a midblock pedestrian crosswalk for no apparent reason. A long line of motorists was queued behind. As I passed the car it appeared empty, and I thought someone had inexplicably abandoned it. I walked up to the driver's window to see a man leaning back in the seat. I thought he was dead and tapped on the window. No response. I tapped again and he woke with a start and bolted off.

Re: Needs a CPAP?
More likely it's narcolepsy, if so, CPAP wouldn't help. (also... should not have a drivers license, either !)

Narcolepsy is uncommon.Gasper62 wrote:More likely it's narcolepsy, if so, CPAP wouldn't help.
As most people here should know, untreated sleep apnea is very common. The prevalence of narcolepsy with cataplexy has been examined in many studies and falls between 25 and 50 per 100,000 people. Information on incidence is limited, with 1 study finding the incidence of narcolepsy with cataplexy to be 0.74 per 100,000 person-years.

What's yer point ? You determined that that motorist didn't suffer narcolepsy due to it's being "uncommon" ? It's not at all uncommon..... for those who actually have it.

Not at all. You said,Gasper62 wrote:You determined that that motorist didn't suffer narcolepsy due to it's being "uncommon" ?
I merely pointed out that untreated sleep apnea is much more common than narcolepsy.Gasper62 wrote:More likely it's narcolepsy
So given the very sparse information known about the sleeping driver, it's a much better bet that he has untreated sleep apnea as compared to narcolepsy.
But, since this happened near a university campus, the best bet is that he was suffering from a long night out and a bad hangover.

Good ideas all, too bad the police were all out collecting Seat Belt Taxes, instead of really doing bussiness. Jim
