New here

Post by Viperchic » Fri Nov 06, 2015 1:15 pm

I just had my sleep study last night and it looks like I'll be getting put on a CPAP. I apparently snored quite a bit before the tech came and put the mask on me. It took me a little bit to get my breathing coordinated with the machine. Felt like the pressure was pretty high. I'm feeling pretty rested today though. Mainly just wanted to drop in and say hi to everyone and see if anyone has any good advice at this point.

Hi and welcome. First thought is that the machine needs to adapt to your breathing so it can 'read' what's what and react accordingly, not the other way around, but what happens in a sleep study is different from what will happen at home, so keep it in mind, but don't fuss now re the study. Until you get your results, it'll be a bit hard to advise on more, but don't worry about the pressure either as that will change when a machine's set up for ongoing use rather than a test, and there are features on machines that help relieve pressure without affecting therapy.

This link is a bit out of date re models, etc., but still worth looking over for now - http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/

Here is a link to the different machines and if they are Full Data Capable.https://sleep.tnet.com/cmd Be sure you do not get a model that has a red NO by it. Your insurance pays the same to the DME for a cheap machine as the ones that record the necessary info which you will need to determine if your therapy is effective or needs adjusting.

Welcome viperchic.

You should be able to get used to the pressure soon.
