Full Face Mask

Post by LightLou » Wed Nov 04, 2015 11:59 am

First time as a registered user. I have been on CPAP for 1 week only and so far it's been very positive. I recently developed a bad allergy and have a stuffed nose which will not allow me to breath through my Airfit P10 mask. After reading through several posts I understand a full face mask would be a better option since I also have a very deviated septum. I have been pretty happy with the P10 but with allergies it's useless. I also have facial hair(full beard) and I am concerned about leaks. Any suggestions?
I use a Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset and Airfir P10 mask. How do I update my profile ?

Welcome to the forum.

Can't help much with Full Face mask ideas since I don't use one and don't have a beard either.
People use them though with beards...even full Santa Claus type beards.
Does present some extra challenges for sure but they can be met.

You are going to find that mask preference is highly personal and what works great for one person may not work so great for the next person.

Until you get a different mask though you might play around with the humidifier settings to see if more or less humidity helps any with the congestion.
Some people find that more humidity helps and others find that less humidity helps.
Or you may find that neither helps but it's worth a try while waiting for a new mask.

Thank You for your reply. I currently have humidity on 5 and as you say it has helped a bit with my congestion. Not close to a Santa Claus beard but one to worry about leaks. Hope to hear from those who have a beard to see what their experience has been. I am currently looking at the quattro fx or airfit f10. Not sure if they will work well with facial hair.

How do you know it is an allergy?

You don't say, but it sounds like you turned it up after the nasal congestion started. When did you change the setting? What was the setting before you experienced the congestion?

Self-care
Until you see your doctor, try these simple steps to relieve symptoms:

Sniffing and swallowing or gently blowing your nose.
If the runny nose is a persistent, watery discharge, particularly if accompanied by sneezing and itchy or watery eyes, your symptoms may be allergy-related, and an over-the-counter antihistamine may help. Be sure to follow the label instructions exactly.
For babies and small children, use a soft, rubber-bulb syringe to gently remove any secretions.

Try these measures to relieve postnasal drip — when excess mucus accumulates in the back of your throat:

Avoid common irritants such as cigarette smoke and sudden temperature changes.
Drink plenty of water.
Use a humidifier.
Try nasal saline sprays or rinses.

try to set the himidifier to level 8 and see what happened.
the higher the level, the worming the air.
if works, get a heated tubing.

I have sported a goatee for a year, and I use the Resmed F10. It is a lightweight mask and is a very popular mask. The cushions are replaceable. I am now growing a beard and have not had any leak problems yet.

I have the same issues as you. deviated septum, allergies, etc. Two nights ago woke up with left side clogged. Pulled off the mask and went back to bed. Last night, I broke out the NeilMed sinus rinse and flushed out the nose before bed, and it worked out great, to the point that today my sinuses are clear.

Preventive maintenance works. Being aggressive with taking care of the allergies does work out. Remember, once you flush out, you get to sleep with filtered air which does also eliminate the allergic reactions at night.
