Need assistance with RESPIRONICS heated hose

Post by 1koolcat » Sun Oct 18, 2015 7:26 pm

I recently purchased a slightly used PHILIPS SYSTEM ONE machine with humidifier. It came with a RESPIRONICS heated hose that I don't think had ever been used.

Once I got the machine cleaned and tested out I realized I couldn't hook up my MIRAGE FX mask to the heated hose, so I used my standard hose from my previous CPAP machine. Having never had a CPAP with a heated hose before I don't know if I really need it, but it would be nice to try it out.

After a week or so I decided to look at the heated hose again to see what was going on. It appears there is an adapter of some sort installed at the mask end of the hose which prevents my standard 22mm mask elbow from being inserted. (see gray collar in my photos) Does anyone know how I can remove this adapter? Simply pulling on it has not worked.

Thanks in advance.

Peter W.

I don't know why people cram those adapters so hard into the hose but you aren't the first one to have this problem.
It will come out but it may take a lot of wiggling back and forth and pulling on it.

Be careful to only pull on the rubber part of the hose and not on the corrugated part so you don't tear the hose.

Thanks. I had already discovered the hose material is much thinner than my standard CPAP hose.

Some masks come with a swivel easy on/off clip, which many forget goes with the mask, not the hose.
If you have the correct mask, removal is easy, otherwise you might need the good old Vise Grips.
If you are lucky enough to have some made in DeWitt, NE, don't ever lose them.

I stopped by a local CPAP device supplier for advice yesterday. They confirmed the gray adapter was for a different mask and needs to be removed. The fellow at the front counter made an attempt to remove the adapter by hand while I watched, but it wouldn't budge.

My next step will be to put the gray adapter end in my bench vise in the garage and see if I can crush it without damaging the delicate hose. At this point I really don't have anything to lose.

I would try to work the tip of a small flat blade screwdriver in under the rubber hose end (very gently ) and work it loose .
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!
