VASOMOTOR RHINITIS

Post by JohnnyBravo » Sun Oct 11, 2015 5:19 pm

So, late in my life i realized and was diagnosed i have nasal valve collapse. I have nasal valve collapse: deviated septum, big turbinates, vasomotor rhinitis and i guess flimsy nostrils as well. I went to see Dr Park in NY and he did the Cottle maneuver to me. I can't believe i didn't even realize i have a collapsed nose. I just came badk from Costa Rica to see a Dr for MMA surgery. I didn't know it was very humid there now (october) cause of rainny season and as soon as i got off the plane my nose completely close. I thought i was gonna go to the ER or die. I was very anxious and scare, this had never happened to me before. I guess i had never been to a place so humid in my life. Everything soutside the plane was just white (clouds or fog?) when we landed. And i felt this big swelling and collapsing even down in my throat. I felt like someone was smothering me. This I never felt before either even though i feel a lump in my throat all the time cause of chronic reflux. Thank God the taxi to the hotel had air conditioning, a well as the hotel room. I had to go out late at night to get Afrin to be able to sleep. But i've been told I can't use it for more than 3 or 5 days. I was prescribed Atrovent by a Doctor in the US i recently saw in Skype. But we don't have that medication here in the form of spray for the nose. Just for the mouth. Now I know this nose issue has been a big reason why my cpap therapy hasn't worked. Why i've been intolerant to cpap. Besides GERD. I also have post nasal drip. It's all related, right? Can anyone share their experiences with vasomotor rhinitis and cpap therapy? What have you used? Is there another medication/component i can find here (Colombia, South America)? Can you put any of these medications, or anything, under a Doctor's care, in the humidifier water so my nose doesn´t collapse with the mask? I'm getting nose surgery at some point and i'm looking for an ENT to treat my nose too. I just want to read feedback in the mean time. i'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

A lot of people here use saline rinses - much easier to manage than e.g. Afrin or even Flonase.
