It's so cute!! I got the Resmed S8 Autoset Vantage from the DME. For those of you who don't know, this has been months in the making. The DME set my apap pressure as prescribed (6-10) but didn't set a cpap pressure, i realized, because the doc didn't put a fixed pressure on the prescription. So yes, I went to ebay, and bought a clinician's manual rather than go through the rigamarole of having the cpap pressure added to the prescription and having the dme come back here again.
One question: the numbers were going up by tenths every coupla seconds or so while i had the mask on, from 6 to 10 and then i think back again. is that what it does? what if you're at 9 and it's only on 6.5? Or am I missing something?
And how do I know what to set the EPR to?
Thanks.

hi there
do you mean that you had the mask on and had it on apap? or tried to set the cpap? sorry, not clear on that questions
the epr - I think it is just what pressure you want on cpap only, to expel so a 1 is like if your pressure is 8 then when you exhale it is at a 7 a little easier
if you have epr at 2, it's like exhaling against 6 and epr at 3 would be like exhaling at 5 - so whatever level you want on exhaling

I have a question for you that may be in your clinical manual.
With EPR, do you get a chance to adjust the risetime ? (is there a risetime setting ?)
I am interested to simulate EPR on my VPAP III (as a daytime experiment) & if there is an adjustable risetime I can set it to match the values available on the Elite/Vantage - if there isn't a risetime setting then the manual may state what the fixed risetime for EPR 1 2 & 3 is.
Hoping you can pass on this info

i meant that the apap was on and i was wearing the mask and the pressure was going from 6 to 10, rising in tenths. hence, my question. i think my breathing was stable, probably more stable than it is when i am asleep. i was just sitting up playing with the machine.
dsm:
there's no risetime designation in the manual. epr is a fall (exhale)mode. but perhaps if you want to examine this question, perhaps you should start a thread on it.

I thought so, but I wasn't sure.chdurie2 wrote:yes, cpapjack, i knew that. my question was that i thought that the apap adjusts to your breathing. but it was going 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, etc. all the way up to 10 when in apap. is that right?

As far as the answer to your question, I'm not sure. Hopefully GoofyUT will read this post and be able to answer it for you. He seems to have a really thorough understanding of how the Vantage's Algorithm works.

It rises by tenths because your in Autoset mode. The doctor has said that your pressure should be between 6 and 10. The S8 starts at 6 and rises up as required so your pressure is constantly changing. If it detects an apnea then it will increase pressure and as the event passes it will decrease pressure but it won't go below 6 or above 10.
With EPR, you can't adjust the rise or fall times only the amount of relief.
