HUMIDIFIER WON'T LATCH

Post by Lisaintosa » Thu Oct 01, 2015 10:39 pm

Hello All!

I have a 3i humidifier and a couple of months ago my cat got on the shelf I keep my machine on and I'm not sure if he got tangled in my hose or what, but the entire unit came crashing down to the floor in the middle of the night landing on the "nose" of the water chamber. Needless to say it scared the pants off both my husband and I. After we picked it up, refilled the chamber and tried to close it, I found that it would not snap shut anymore. I've looked at it numerous times and can't seem to figure out what the problem is. So my 1st question is: does anyone have any ideas on what could possibly be wrong and how to fix it and 2: do you know of anywhere that I can get a used/refurb for not a ton of cash.

For the time being I have been putting a 1/2 filled gallon jug on the top to keep it sealed and while it does seem to work, sometime the jug moves and messes with the buttons. I thought it was possessed last night as I turned it off, it turned back on lol

Thanks for the help!!

Lisa

Looking at the HH unit, I suspect that something got dislodged, shifted or broken in the fall.
Without being able to visually inspect it, it would be hard to say just what it was. But, if you take your time and try to figure out what happened, you may be able to figure it out. Sounds like "something" is further forward or rearward than it's supposed to be. Look at the lid and see if it's forward or rearward of where it's supposed to latch. Or, if there's a piece that's supposed to fit into another part to latch it......that may be broken off or out of place.

Couple of suggestions...the lid gasket (or other gasket-style seals) can come unseated, check to be sure that looks right and is pushed into proper position. And check that the hinges are positioned as they should be. It could just be broken, but I'd fiddle with it some before coming to that conclusion *smile*. For example, if you slowly raise and lower the lid, you might be able see that it's off-center because something's out of place. Just look at it while you move the moving parts around and see if you can figure out what might be interfering with it sealing properly.
