Mask Liner Question
Mask Liner Question
Good Morning. I actually have a couple of questions today but will use separate posts. My first one is about mask liners. Do any of you have any special hints or tips on their usage? Mine finally came in the mail yesterday - Silent Night Full Face, size small - and I followed the directions carefully. I found it to be 80% better - happy days. I'm usually fiddling all night with leaks. Anyway, there were some leaks last night, but the barrier of the mask made them less annoying. I was all excited about looking at the stats this a.m. but I saw my very first red frowny face for leakage - HOWEVER - my numbers were great: AH1 at 0.7; Central at 0 and Total AI at 0.2. Usage time 8.05. Should I be concerned with the leakage (36 L/M)? And do you have any tips for using the liners? I have to say it was nice not having to tighten the straps as much as I usually do. I have a small face, and I'm a mouth breather during deep sleep. Thank you. Now on to my next post...

Re: Mask Liner Question
Mr Frowny face doesn't show up until your leaks exceeded 24 L/min for 30% or more of the night.
So your leaks were pretty bad especially if the 95% leak number is 36 L/min which means at or below for 95% of the night.
When leaks exceed 30 L/min on the ResMed machines the machine will start having trouble identifying and responding to apnea events. Over 35 L/min the machine is pretty much clueless.
You need to use the software to see exactly how much time was spent in large leak territory and just how far you went.
With leaks this bad we can't trust the AHI because we don't know if nothing happened or the machine simply couldn't sense what might have happened.

Re: Mask Liner Question
Though I love the way mask liners feel on my face, I cannot control or stop the massive leaks I get with them. I would guess that 90% of the people get LESS leaks with the liners. That never was the case for me... and a few other folks. I'd suggest you spent more time trying to work with it. Never be concerned about a cpap-event after only one night's occurrence.
