Will I need a humidifier equipped Cpap Machine in SDcotland
Hello, This is the first time I've tried posting. I am a new CPAP machine user. I am an expat living in California (very dry climate) and I need a machine equipped with humidifier. I go to Scotland every year which I know is NOT dry and we also travel to France, next year to Bordeaux and Dordogne. I am buying a travel CPAP machine do I need one with a humidifier? I'd appreciate any advice that can be provided as I am a novice.
Thank you!

Try sleeping without your humidifier filled now and see if you miss it. The answer depends on personal preference and comfort. You don't want to create a situation where you become non compliant because it is uncomfortable for you.

Why? They are only slightly smaller than current nightstand models.Donasdhu2 wrote:buying a travel CPAP machine

It depends on whether the place is heated or not. Heating can cause more dryness then you California desert.Donasdhu2 wrote:Hello, This is the first time I've tried posting. And certainly the individual local climate and season cannot be guessed at, or your reaction to it, or e.g. potentially drying central heating set up wherever you're staying.

'Tis far better to have something, and not need it, than to need something, and not have it. Just my opinion. Hope you have a fun trip !

Personally, I'd rather have one handy even if I didn't need it than to NOT have one available and decide I should have taken it.
Lots of people still use humidifiers in areas with higher relative humidity..
And, it's not like they're a huge thing to transport. There should be a place in the CPAP travel bag for it.

When I went to Scotland I did not use my humidifier. I took it with me but never needed it. Plenty of moisture there!

But this year has shown unusual shifts in weather patterns. FWIW
I use my humidifier year round. I always get the moisture I need--no fuss.

Amphibians do require a high level of moisture.

Certain parts of me must remain moist for optimal comfort.

Re: Will I need a humidifier equipped Cpap Machine in SDcotland
Thank you for all of these very fast responses, I do appreciate your support! The reason for wanting to acquire a Travelling CPAP is because it is lighter ( much lighter!) and I want to be able to use it on the flight which can be around 10 hours from SFO. I will need battery back up for the machine to function.
I was born in Scotland and do understand how humid it is there hence my enquiry. I live in the Sierra foothills where the humidity level is around 20% ( unless it rains and we'll believe it's raining when we see it!) and I realize that a humidifier is necessary and beneficial.
I wondered if due to the increased level of humidity in Scotland I might not require that feature. However, after reading your wise council I believe that I should buy a machine that is equipped with a humidifier because A) its a sensible safeguard and B) I'll certainly need it on the airplane.
Thank you for your kindness in responding!
Best,
Donasdhu2

And C) you'll be able to use it as a backup unit in those dry foothills if ever the need should arise.Donasdhu2 wrote:Thank you for all of these very fast responses, I do appreciate your support! I suggest you check on this - the manufacturers suggest not using a humidifier in-flight as any turbulence could cause water in the tank to spill into the machine and damage it.Donasdhu2 wrote: However, after reading your wise council I believe that I should buy a machine that is equipped with a humidifier because A) its a sensible safeguard and B) I'll certainly need it on the airplane.
