First several nights on CPAP with problems

Post by ckp » Wed Sep 16, 2015 4:47 pm

Hello-

I was diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea. I went in to pick up the loaner cpap machine and nose mask on last Thursday. I wore it that night and Friday night without experiencing sleeping issue with it. But on the third night of using it, I am experiencing these issues. Just as I am falling sleep my breathing would stop for couple or several seconds then body jerk and would wake me up follows by fast heart rate. This would last throughout the night and lucky if I get 4 hours of sleep. Now, the stop breathing, body jerk, and fast heart rate happens with or without the CPAP on. It also happens during my nap. This has never happened to me before and just happened after the 3 night of using CPAP. Is this normal? Will my body need time to adjust to the extra air? Should I stop using the machine and see if this is the culprit? It is freaking me out!

Has anyone experienced these symptoms? If so what did you end up doing?

Thank you in advance.

Could this be onset sleep central? I stop using the cpap last night and I noticed it less of this is happening.

Not normal...could be some anxiety. If it continues, consult your doctor.

What machine are you using? Hopefully it is a model that offers full data so you can use the available software to see what the machine is maybe flagging at that time as well as at other times during the night.
These newer machines will flag centrals....either sleep onset or pressure triggered.
