i dunno, i find it easier to work the "lovely looking, designer-like ball fasteners" than the fasteners on the activa, i'm going to assume the buckles between the activa and the umff are similar, but i have to make sure the top and bottom part of the buckle are properly inserted into the mask frame with a mirror, lol, i was able to make it work with just the top part inserted right and the bottom one jammed outside of the receptor one night and didn't realize it till morning when i couldn't take it off, i guess i'm lucky the thing didn't break. anyways, sorry for the rambling.

There really is something to be said about the comfort, excuse the word, of an old mask, relatively speaking. Some of my negatives about the comfortfull 2 may be partly based on that, the fact that i was using a medium rather than small comfortfull 2 (it fits--i just have to tighten it more) and the fact that i don't like those lovely looking, designer-like ball fasteners. what a pain when everything is in place and you have to scratch your nose or get a drink of water! umff mostly does the job for me, even though it sometimes scratches my nose, and the mouth seal could be better.

you're such a umff diehard that i'm kind of surprised that you got something different. guess i just thought you would get a new umff when the old one wore out.

Hi Caroline,

Yeah, I know.....

In view of ResMed's (rumored) position on prices and Internet sellers, etc., I wanted to try a backup plan. However, at the time I bought the CF2, I also bought a couple of sets of seals/cushions for the UMFF.....before the prices (potentially) go up. If worse comes to worst, I COULD survive with the CF2, but (for me), it's just not nearly as comfortable. Respironics REALLY needs to get some new blood in their R & D department. (At least as far as their full face masks go.)
I still may end up with another UMFF before the price increases go into effect, too.

Take care,

Den

This morning I got fitted for a full face mask. The preceeding night the end piece on my Breeze came apart--I think I could glue it to fix it, but since I'm a mouth breather and have acid reflux I felt like it was better to go with a full face mask.

Just going by most of the responses at CPAP forums it seems like fewer people have leakage problems with the Ulta Mirage than with the Comfortfull 2. It varies of course.

So I went to my CPAP supplier figuring I'd get the Mirage but the respiratory therapist there recommended that I use the Fisher Paykel Full Face Mask--she said that most of her patients liked it better--she said the cost of it was comparable to the other two and my co-pay with the insurance was only $12.21 so I figured--what the heck--it felt comfortable and it seemed like I got a good seal on it so I decided to go with it.

The last two months has almost killed me--buth there are other things I'm going to try other than just the full Face Mask. I had them raise the temperature on my respironics auto to the maximum level of 5 so the full face mask wouldn't dry me out.

I've discontinued taking Niacin for cholesterol reasons so my reflux won't be agravated--I'm going to take a Benadryl at night and also take a Pepcid complete just as a possible heartburn preventative--if all that fails on the acid reflux front then i'm ging to get my Doctor to prescribe Nexium for me..

Keep your fingers crossed for me--I loved the Breeze--but now I NEED a Full Face Mask--I'm tired of having read marks from tight chin straps--I'll report back with how well I do on the Fiasher & Pakel--I think it's a HC421A. Thank everyone here for the help!

P.S. I don't know if the Fisher & Pakel will leak alot but just trying it on it felt REAL comfortable. Your chin fits in it like it is on a shelf--I guess the proof will be in how much it leaks tonight--in any case I had to have a new mask--if it doen't work i'll try the Ultra Mirage or the ComfortFull2. If NO Full Facer Mask works I'll consider MMA surgery but only as a last resort.

Den, One thing you need on the shelf, to go with the Comfortfull and or 2, is JB Weld, Where the ball snaps in, has to have some flex built in, and the ears snap off. I welded them on, but for extra strenth I made a plastic retainer that goes over the ball, efectiveally boxing the ball inside a plastic cage. Doing this without glueing the ball down was a problem, but I was successful.

The downside is, I have to thread and adjust on strap every night, The upside , I'm going to set A World Record for life of a CPAP Mask! I fudged and used a Hot Melt Glue Gun to repair the nose adjuster.

I have 3,000 hours on it now.
