Still feeling tired and drug out all the time

Post by huskers4life11 » Sat Aug 15, 2015 11:08 am

Have had cpap since December. I am pretty good about wearing it every night. Sometimes I still take it off in my sleep. Going back to see the sleep doctor in 2 weeks. Anybody else have this problem? I dropped around 15lbs and that does not seem to make a difference either.

What are your pressures set at? What pressures does your prescription call for?

Yeah, just about everybody.......early in their therapy. The trick is to stop doing it. I think there are at least one or two threads currently on the first page of the forum that have been discussing that.

I have had my pressure set at 11 for the last couple of weeks. My prescription calls for 9.

What's your humidifier setting? Too much warm, humid air can create a suffocating feeling (IMO).

Have you ever tried your machine in Apap mode - is there a reason you're on (apparently) straight Cpap vs Apap?

And can you download SleepyHead software (free) from the forum so we can get an idea what might be going on?

That's not uncommon early on in therapy, but it *is* a big no-no. Try taping the mask to your face (with a medical-type tape across the headgear straps) so that it will pull on your skin if you try to take the headgear off. Keep telling yourself to keep the mask on all night every night. If it helps, wear the mask during the day while reading or watching tv or otherwise relaxing; that helps the brain get used to the idea of having an alien on your face while you sleep, and you'll be less likely to subconsciously want it off.

Otherwise, are you reading the detailed data from your machine? Software is free and readily available. None of us knows what happens while we're asleep, but the data can reveal a whole lot and help us narrow down the issue(s) we're having so we know what about our therapy needs fixing. Perhaps your pressure is sub-par and needs tweaking. You shouldn't still be dragging after so much time on the machine, so something's amiss.
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.

Dx 11/07: AHI 107, central apnea, Cheyne Stokes respiration, moderate-severe O2 desats. (Simple OSA would be too easy. ;))

Julie, he has a CPAP, not an APAP.

CPAP cannot cure all problems of tiredness.

Have a look at my earlier post here, it might help:

All the best

Do not deride the idiots of this world as they make the rest of us look so much better :-) BUT, avoid being an idiot yourself and PERSIST WITH CPAP.
